Small but very interesting museum in Ploegsteert explaining WW1 in a very accessible way, with a clear focus on the Battle of Mesen. Museum composed of several artefacts, maquettes and interactive panels which demonstrate the history, evolution, and experience of alost five years of Great War and its effect on civilians as well as soldiers from all parties. Local guide is possible, due to a small fee and bringing an extra dimension on the "Plugstreet Experience". The museum is a souterrain, next to a large Commonwealth Memorial and on the edge of what once was known as Ploegsteert Wood on the road from Ploegsteert to Mesen. It refers to a part of warfare in the Great War, known as...

For me it was a huge disappointment. I was expecting the museum to be much larger. Turns out, that after you enter, you have the video room, and a few items displayed. Not what I was expecting. Initially the entry fee didn’t sound expensive for a family of four. But the amount of content in the museum does not justify €24 price for a family of four. Lot of information is provided in text format. Video in four languages and a bunch of pictures displayed that literally has nothing to do with world war 1. Again, for us it was a huge disappointment. Is it worth a visit? If I had the chance to go back in time, I’d not visit the museum simply for the amount of...

Whilst the building itself looks small and empty the displays and videos are exceptional. Very informative videos lead you to some large touch screens allowing you to view photographs and accounts around the battle of messines ridge and beyond. The photographs bring to light the awful conditions faced by the soldiers, something that is hard to visualise when only reading some text. We spent two hours here but could have spent a lot more. Staff were extremely helpful showing us other sites of...

Really helpful staff took us through the excellent museum's activities. Lots of interactive activities and an informative film to start that explained the history of The Great War. The staff went the extra mile when I asked about Winston Churchill's experience around Plugstreet. She found a magazine with an article and had bookmarked it for me. We spent about an hour and a half here.

Well off the beaten track this one. But well worth a visit. Excellant screens telling you about how it all started and finished. Then a massive timeline map that shows you how the front lines changed over the course of time. Very interesting to see it shown like that. Plenty of car park space. Easy enough to find. Highly recommended. 7 euro entry fee.
