On our today's trip we encountered a creepy naked guy walking around only in balaclava and a backpack. To the people who come here with their dogs or kids, or just women jogging by themselves, please, be careful. The guy walked towards us with his genitalia in his hand, but got scared and turned around. When we were on our way back home, he returned to the place. This happened around 9:30-10:00 in...

Leuk stukje geschiedenis!

ERFGOEDWANDELING DE DOODENDRAAD Duitsland viel in 1914 op brutale wijze het neutrale België binnen. De grensbewoners, zoals die van Hamont-Achel kregen het hard te verduren door de aanleg van een hermetische afsluiting van de grens. De Duitse bezetter wilde elk contact met het vrije Nederland beletten en plaatste hiervoor een dodelijke elektrische versperring langs de grens.

Sinds 2000 staat in Hamont-Achel een reconstructie (aangepast in 2015) van "Den droad" zoals deze in de volksmond wordt genoemd. Langsheen deze reconstructie staan infoborden die je extra info verstrekken over de oorspronkelijke...

Didn’t know what to expect, and the way there was as bit scary but I’m glad we went. If ever you’re in the area, make sure to bring this place a visit for an eerie yet interesting bit of history.

Indrukwekkende herinnering aan de verschrikkingen van de Eerste wereldoorlog. Te zien (gratis uiteraard) bij de abdij van Achel en 2 km verderop richting Achel. Wie in het voorjaar gaat, weet voortaan waarom daar witte krokussen staan....
