They Ruined Our Day – Clear Discrimination! Date: July 13, 2025
We drove more than an hour from the Netherlands to visit this facility, and it completely ruined our day — for us and especially for our children. The staff was rude, only spoke French, and enforced rigid, arbitrary rules. Despite my explanations and legal objections, we were openly discriminated against in front of our children.
Using dress codes as an excuse, they tried to prevent Muslim women from entering the facility. This is clear discrimination. When I asked on what legal grounds they were enforcing such a policy, they failed to show any valid regulation. They simply claimed, “We’re a private business; we make our own rules.” But they couldn’t explain the basis of those rules. If the discrimination is that blatant, then they might as well put a sign at the entrance saying, “Muslim women not allowed.” I even reminded them that a similar rule was previously struck down by a Belgian court for being discriminatory, but they continued their arbitrary enforcement.
To make things worse, they also did not allow men to swim in regular swim shorts. This is a blatant contradiction since almost all of their own staff were wearing the exact same kind of shorts. They insisted on tight-fitting "slip" swimwear, allegedly for “hygiene reasons,” but could not present any scientific or official basis for this rule. The World Health Organization has never issued such guidance, and I’ve never encountered such a rule in aquaparks in the U.S., Germany, the Netherlands, or elsewhere. How can swimwear designed for swimming be considered unhygienic? Claiming that only “slip” swimsuits are hygienic is simply nonsense.
On top of all this, they even threatened to call the police. When I responded, “Go ahead and call them — I will file a complaint for discrimination,” they changed their minds. One staff member even admitted that it was ridiculous to remove people from the pool because of their shorts. I said, “So you agree that this rule is absurd,” but they still didn’t change their behavior.
My children were traumatized twice — first by witnessing their mother being discriminated against, and then by being forced to leave the pool. We were a group of 7 people, including a friend’s family, and we didn’t even receive a refund for our tickets.
I will be filing a formal complaint and pursuing legal action against this open discrimination as soon as possible. I strongly condemn this establishment, which makes up its own rules, discriminates against people based on their clothes and beliefs, and completely disregards fundamental...
Read moreIf you’re hunting for the ultimate family water adventure, Plopsaqua Hannut-Landen is exactly where you want to be. This place is a dream for kids and adults alike, blending indoor and outdoor aquatic fun with an imaginative design that feels straight out of a storybook. From the moment we walked in, we were struck by the vibrant, fantasy-themed décor—giant flowers, animated characters, and immersive lighting that makes you forget you’re in Belgium.
The pool areas are pristine, with the perfect balance of shallow sections for little ones and thrilling slides for the daredevils in the family. The highlight for me was the scary vertical drop slide—an adrenaline rush I did not expect but absolutely loved. There are enough rides and pools to keep everyone busy for hours, from lazy river drifts to splash zones for younger
The kids were beyond happy—so happy, in fact, that dragging them out at closing time was the real challenge of the day. The lifeguards and staff are attentive, and the entire space feels well-managed and safe, which makes it easy to relax as a parent.
The only downside? A couple of unexpected costs. Our UK-style swim trunks were not allowed (something about their swimwear policy), which meant shelling out an extra €45 for the approved shorts. Parking wasn’t free either, which adds a bit to the total bill. But honestly, the experience was so enjoyable that these annoyances felt minor compared to the overall fun.
Plopsaqua Hannut-Landen delivers exactly what a family waterpark should: excitement, safety, and a unique atmosphere that keeps you smiling long after you’ve dried off. It’s not just a place for kids; adults will find themselves swept up in the fun too. Would we go again? Without a doubt—though next time, we’ll come prepared with the...
Read moreThe price for a day out at a water park can naturally add up. However, this experience completely shattered all our expectations. Of course, you have to pay for entry (€27.50), but then you're forced to buy new swimwear because anything you already own (unless it's a Speedo) is deemed inappropriate or unhygienic. The price for a regular pair of swim trunks was €20.
Once inside, you need to pay €5 for a locker, only to get €2 back at the end. Then, as you enter the park, you’re met with a mess, and the food prices are outrageous. For a few portions of fries and some drinks, we ended up spending another €50.
After waiting for what felt like forever for the wave pool to start, only to find out it wouldn’t be operating for two hours straight, we decided to call it a day and go home. At the exit, we discovered that the parking fee was an additional €12.50.
For a Plopsa park, which is supposed to cater to children, there wasn’t much for a 5-year-old girl who was really looking forward to this visit. The only slide available for her was underwhelming. I am deeply disappointed by this experience and the way they practically extort money from...
