⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5) Spa-Francorchamps Museum at Abbey of Stavelot – A Niche Experience, but Limited for Non-French Speakers

We visited the Spa-Francorchamps Museum housed within the Abbey of Stavelot, drawn by its connection to one of the most iconic racetracks in the world. The collection of vintage photos, memorabilia, and race cars offers a nostalgic look at the evolution of motorsport in the region.

However, we were disappointed to find that most of the exhibit information is in French, with very limited English translations. This significantly impacted the depth of understanding and engagement for non-French speakers. For an international attraction tied to such a globally renowned circuit, this felt like a missed opportunity.

We did not explore the rest of the abbey or the other museum sections, so our review is solely based on the Spa exhibition.

The museum setting is atmospheric and well-maintained, and motorsport enthusiasts will still enjoy the visuals and artifacts. But for non-French-speaking visitors, the experience may feel incomplete unless improvements are made to language...

The 3 in 1 museum depends of the time of the year, we went to specifically visit the Space Exhibition but it was already over so we only visited the permanent exhibition and the Racetrack museum. To be honest, the permanent exhibition doesn't worth the visit, most of the things you can see are not original relics but copies (and poorly made copies!) and everything was in french, too much space for such few things, what a disappointment. But the Racetrack was another story, it is not big but it has a very valuable collection of race cars and memorabilia specially for fans and kids. Then you can make a walk through the town (is small) and then I recommend visit the waterfalls of Coo, that is another completely different thing! Start wandeling van 12,3km (gele rechthoek) voor gratis parking rij je, terwijl je het museum voorbij rijdt aan je rechterkant, de eerste straat rechts in. Daar vind je gratis parking tegenover het appartementsgebouw. Voor de start van de wandeling loop je langs het museum en zie je op de straathoek allemaal pijltjes die wandelingen aanduiden. De eerste 10min van de wandeling zijn door stavelot, langs het buitenzwembad en de atletiekpiste... Eens je daar voorbij bent begint de adembenemende schoonheid van deze wandeling. Je komt voorbij L'eau rouge waarna je door de vallei van Challes wandelt. Prachtig gewoon. De eerste helft van de wandeling ga je omhoog, maar het is zo geleidelijk dat je het niet echt merkt. Halverwege kwamen we een bankje tegen dat uitkijkt over de velden die bezaaid zijn met koeien en een adembenemend vergezicht. Daar zagen we ook een bordje in een boom hangen met 'Rocher de Warche' en zijn we toch even afgeweken van de route om te gaan kijken. Zeker de moeite! Het laatste uur van de wandeling is pittig en steil omhoog. Daarna is het enkel nog omlaag. Op een bepaald moment moet je even over het erf van een oude boerderij om dan uit te komen op een landweggetje tussen de koeien door. Daar was het wel heel modderig maar zalig om zo dicht bij de koeien te lopen. Hierna moet je even een raar manoeuvre maken rond een boom om dan plots in het midden van een veld te staan met uitzicht op de vallei. Zalig! Als je deze overgestoken bent sta je middenin een bos.
