Forestia — Attraction in Theux

We returned to La Forestia today for the second time. It was great again. So wonderful to see happy animals in their natural surroundings. They really set great store by keeping the animals as fulfilled as possible. You can really tell that the staff and owners are animal lovers. The place itself and the surroundings are beautiful.

The food at their restaurant is really top notch too.

As horsey people, we were concerned about one pony, whose wire fence wasn’t adequate because he kept begging for food and his front hoof repeatedly caught in the fence. This can cause serious injuries or his death because a horse, as a prey animal, is likely to panic when being stuck. What’s more, he suffers from a metabolic disease (cushing, see his coat in the photos), which causes a thick coat so he really should be clipped in summer in order not to suffer from the heat. His long hoofs could do with a trim too.

We had a fantastic experience at Forestia! Well worth the trip, one can easily spend half a day there, combining the adventure park and the animal park took us over five hours. The adventure park was a blast with the kids and husband alike, it felt very safe, and the staff was super attentive and always available to help. We went with kids ages 6 and 11 and both got to do a number of routes. The walk through the animal park takes quite a while and I highly recommend buying the animal feed at the entrance. There's also a nice restaurant on the premises, food was great, staff, again, very helpful. Another plus from my end, they have plant based milk for coffee. Ansich ein schöner Park, in der Natur zwischen Wiesen und Wald gelegen aber teilweise sind die Flächen für die Tiere "zu" klein. Vor allem für die Bären schien es mir nicht ausreichend Platz zu sein.

Sonst sahen die Tiere und der Park insgesamt gepflegt aus.

Was mir nicht gefallen hat, waren die Preise. Für 2 Erwachsene und 2 Kinder unter 8 J. haben wir 80 Euro bezahlt. Ein ziemlich hoher Preis für eine Park der außer den Tieren nichts weiter für den Preis bietet. Der Park ist zwar weitläufig aber es sind nicht all zu viele Tiere. Man sieht Bären, Wölfe, Lux und viel unterschiedliches Dammwild sowie vorne am Eingang Hühner, Pferde, Lammas.

Unverschämt ist auch die Gebühr in Höhe von 5 Eur für den Parkplatz. Der Park liegt außerhalb von Theux, heisst man kommt da nicht so einfach ohne Auto hin. Man ist also auf ein Parkplatz angewiesen, der nicht Mal asphaltiert oder besonders geschützt ist. Es ist ein normaler Schotterparkplatz an einer Schnellstraße und dafür verlangen sie 5 Eur. Meiner Meinung nach unverschämt.

Und leider ist die Internetseite sowie die Google Seite nicht auf dem neuesten Stand. Wir haben uns vorher hierüber informiert und gestern, dass es auf dem Gelände eine Möglichkeit fürs Mittagessen gibt. Es stand nirgends, dass gesonderte Öffnungszeiten gelten oder dass das Restaurant und die Cafés geschlossen sein. Vor Ort beim Bezahlen wurden wir aber dann darauf hingewiesen, dass heute nix auf hat. Umdrehen mit 2 Kleinkindern die sich sehr darauf gefreut haben, war keine Option. Aber da wir nicht genügend Snacks und Co. Eingepackt hatten, mussten wir bereits nach 3 Std. abreisen, weil alle hungrig wurden. Viel zu schade, die Kids hätten gern noch mehr Zeit auf dem Spielplatz verbracht nach d Essen.

Sonst ist der Park schön und auch für Kleinkinder geeignet, sie sollten aber gut laufen können oder man sollte einen Buggy einplanen, da die Strecke bergab und auf geht und ein gutes Stück gelaufen werden muss.
