Its really a nice place to take a stroll. The castle, mainly its ruins is located within the woods. A narrow road leads to the parking spot few meters away from the entrance. You need to get tickets from the counter inside the compoud where you can also get some printed guides too about the castle ruins. Its a nice read as you take the walk between the numbered spots.

The view of the river Meuse with a small island is just amazing. The boundary of one side of the castle is somewhat like a cliff. So if you are walking with small kids pay extra attention. I would not suggest talking the kids stroller because the gorund is pretty uneven. Though there are paths were you can use the stroller too.

You can easily spend an hour at the location. They suggest to start the route by going through the ruins first and then to the 'town' area. There are some drinks and snacks that the ticket counter available which was really helpful because the weather was really hot...

Little remains of the castle ruins, apart from some foundations, smaller towers and 1 big wall of the main building. Together with the fortified walls surrounding the medieval settlement you will still get a good impression of how life must have been here 700 years ago. Information signs provide an explanation of the different parts of Poilvache and tell its history. Although you can ride up the hill and park your car close to the castle, it’s recommended to park in Houx and hike up through the woods, the hike is not too long and you can enjoy the beautiful wood along an...

Hiked 6.5 miles to get here. A return hike is going to be all day. ONLY TO FIND ITS CLOSED!! GATE SAYS OPEN DAILY 10.30 - 18.00 ONLINE SAYS THE SAME!! I wish places would update their information. So frustrating, there are many other places I could have hiked to. Waste of a day. Without entry there is nothing to see from outside apart from 1 wall. No view. Everything is inside the ruin, behind a huge CLOSED gate. Absolutely 100% disappointed. 15th September...

Entrance fee is only 4€ so with that in mind i had a good time! The booklet they gave us had all the info needed to discover the ruins, though there are qr codes that serve the same purpose aswell. What’s a bit of a shame, is that most of it is completely grown over. The pictures in the booklet show it fully uncovered, but unfortunately that’s not the case currently. A lot of things are still unknown about the castle, so i do hope they get the funding for more research!

Really a nice spot. It is lost in the wilderness so it is a mix between park and historical ruins. The entrance is 2e (free for kids) and comes with a nice explanatory book. We were almost alone there. There is also a small bar with 4/5 outside tables to enjoy after or during the visit/walk. On top of that you can enjoy a nice view of the valley. Definitely something to try out.
