A nice and informative place to visit if your learning or interested in the history of WWI. It's situated in a beautiful park with a lake. The building itself looks like a grand house and there is a cafe/resturant/ice-cream place adjacent to the museum. We found some off street parking just round the corner but as we were leaving we spotted a carpark in the park. The school I work at takes our year 6 child here as part of their WwI curriculum and it was one of the reasons we made the trip. The museum was really interesting lots to see and you get an interactive remote for various exhibits on the way round you just point it at the scanner then put the remote to your ear to hear the audio in your chosen language. We spent a good couple of hours wandering round. There is a room where a moving scene is projected onto the walls and ceiling and it's accompanied by a beautiful piece of music I found it quite moving my partner however who is ex military was really overwhelmed by the explosions that were heard over the music but he knew doing this trip it would evoke a lot of emotions. Overall this a a great place for adults and...
Read moreProbably one of the best museums I've been to and I preferred this to the Flanders Field Museum in Ypres. We visited on a Thursday early afternoon and it was very quiet which was perfect as we had certain areas completely to ourselves. The audio guide is interesting and doesn't overload you with too much information so it's definitely worth taking. The trenches and the dugout were both thought provoking and good to experience Unfortunately the cafe was closed when we left as we would have liked a snack but there is a lovely bakery 200m away in the town. Staff very friendly and helpful at the museum and very knowledgeable. You can get a multi ticket that gives you same day access to this site and then the Flanders Field Museum in Ypres. It cost 18 Euros which is amazing value. We came by bus from Ypres which was very easy (number 90) and this will also take you to Tyne Cot Cemetery if you want to see this too. I would start at Tyne Cot and then either enjoy the 30 mins walk back to the museum or get...
Read moreI shall start with the spacious parking lot which is great to have on place. We went there on saturday and there were alOt of people and even tourists, but we did not have to wait a lot to get our tickets which is 11,5 euros for each adult. By the way there is an accessibility for those with whilchair all over this place. We got our audio guide in english and french and started the visit which was amazing. We got a lot of informations through out this excellent exhibition. The very interesting thing is that we had an opportunity to go down and experience the same thing as back in 1917, which is called dugs. It was an absolutely unforgettable experience visiting this museum. The washrooms are in your service, clean and tidy. I shall not forget to mention the cafés on the place which can assure you having some relaxing time. The outdoor view was amazing and we gOt some incredible photos. It is one of the " not to miss" museums I suggest you to go. Thanks all the personnel of this amazing...
