Dwayne was our tour guide and he is the most incredibly gifted conservationist who has intelligence way beyond his years. We are both conservationists ourselves and he taught us so much about the anthropology of the Creole and Mayan people and the medicines they made from nature which we found in the jungle. Dwayne also introduced us to many howler monkeys and was so knowledgeable about their biology and the threats to them due to human invasion. This was a bucket list experience to interact in the wild with such beautiful creatures. We have so respect and admiration to Dwayne and the other conservationists who are working for so little financial reward to preserve the natural habitat and wildlife in their...

The sanctuary is great in that it protects the habitat of the black howler monkeys and other wildlife here, as well as promotes conservation of the riverbank. Our experience was poor - our guide was drunk, attracted monkeys by hand by feeding them some special leaves (he said coca leaves but they seemed big and green) and tried to get them worked up to howl. We were saddened, it seemed to us that conservation and low impact would be the focus. The guide kept digging for tips and trying to tell us we saw what we wanted. We finally just had to say: no, we didn't appreciate him interfering with the animals and that the tour was not...

This place was quite disappointing . Ive heard alot of things about this place and i expected it to be alot more big, interesting and wild . Besides some howler monkeys (very interesting experience) the "guided" tour has nothing . We walked mayby 10 min in foot, the guide walked realy fast and looked bored and tired. He said its his six "guide" walk of the day .

And thats it. This what the place has to offer . Also when i came and paid they didnt gave me a ticket or something and told me to walk towards the "guide" . The "guide" didnt undrrstand i paid already so it was very confusing and not nice .

I dont recommend this...

This is a must see for anyone interested in Belize's flora and fauna. We walked along in the understory of the Belizean subtropical rainforest, and saw cashew trees, howler monkeys, and many colorful birds (such as the vermilion flycatcher). Our guide, Robert, was very knowledgeable and patient, and pointed out many different species. All the guides are volunteer, and they run on donation. There's also a little museum, where they display the local history (mahogany logging, people and culture, and local species).
