A small but wonderful nature reserve, contains various flora and fauna life within its perimeters. A wide range of animals (Howler Monkeys, iguanas, gibnut etc.) can be seen, depending on the time of the year. Just west of the vicinity roars the Roaring River which is a tributary for the Belize River just a few yards down stream. The visitor accommodates for historical information, as well as for conservation. Bathroom are on site, but there isn't any snack or water shop. Overall, a terrific place for students, nature lovers and families to come and have fun.

Guanacaste National Park was horribly marked from the highway, and we probably wouldn't have known it existed except for our research ahead of time. It's a beautiful little slice of heaven, ridiculously affordable (maybe $5 a person?), and the swimming hole down at the river was pretty cool, though the little fish nibbling on you as soon as you stop moving can be quite unnerving!

A hidden gem on the suburb of Belmopan City. Very easy to access to the diverse eco-system of what Belize can offer. You will be surprised to find all the rich flora and fauna in this small National Park. After some hiking in the moderately graded trails, you can enjoy swimming in the cool Roaring River flowing past the Park, and joining the Belize River.

It is 5 bzd for non residents and 1 bzd for residents. The big loop is about 2 km in the jungle, it is well maintained, not difficult but bring bug spray. The smaller loop takes you to the swimming area, which is nice if you want to refresh yourself. The park is a nice stop after hours of driving but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit it.

The park is very nice — trails are interesting with many twists and turns. A lot of up and down — great views of the river — so many plants to see (and birds)! The curator is very pleasant too. The only drawback is that it is so close to the highway that you have traffic/truck noise for most of your hike.

We did an easy trail out to the lookouts on a rainy day. It was a nice way to break up the drive from San Ignacio to Hopkins, but there's not much. It seems like you can swim too on nicer days. Definitely don't need 4wd to get here.
