If you ever find yourself wandering the picturesque island of Bermuda, don’t miss the quirky little gem that is Somerset Bridge. At just 22 inches wide, it's officially the world’s smallest drawbridge, the drawbridge is no longer opened for sailboats, but it caused lots of thoughts about the precision required for the masts of sailboats to make it through that narrow opening. But trust me, this pint-sized bridge has character!

Nestled on the island’s west end, Somerset Bridge is a bit of a hidden treasure. Despite its modest size, it boasts a fascinating history that dates back to 1620, when it was first built to allow boats to pass between the Great Sound and the waters of the South Shore. It’s a relic of Bermuda’s nautical past and a charming reminder of how engineering ingenuity once worked with nature, not against it.

While it might not be a skyscraper or a sprawling beach, Somerset Bridge stands out as a quirky, must-see spot for any visitor looking for something a bit off the beaten path. Perfect for a photo op, a quick history lesson, or just a reason to pause and appreciate the little things in life. Plus, the view of the surrounding waters is stunning!

So, hop on over and soak in the history and the view—it’s a fun spot to check out that’ll make your Bermuda trip just a little...

A scenic and historic location, Somerset Bridge boasts breathtaking views of turquoise waters with remnants of Bermuda's old and no longer used railway system. Somerset Bridge is known for being the smallest drawbridge in the world, but lesser known for its quiet walking trails, fishing, and it's park is the perfect place to picnic. There's also a coffee shop on the grounds in case you don't want to bring your own food to...

Neat little landmark. Only takes a few minutes. Pack some food for the fish and ducks that will inevitably be there. You can take the #7 or #8 bus from the dockyard and pop off briefly and just catch the next bus heading back or further into the island. There's a bus stop just up the road from it.
