This is a famous place called fertility temple. About 5-6 Km from the main road. Their are small paddy fields on the way and looks nice. Punakha MSL is 1200 m and it was hot in June. All the shops display Phallus of different size and shapes as soveneirs. Some walls are also painted with Phallus and I believe this is only such a place. On reaching the temple, there is a large parking space and few shops selling food stuff to soveneirs. The entry ticket is Rs 500. About 10' wide dirt path of about a Km takes one to the temple. All the tree and shrubs around are found in maharashtra's arid region. just near the temple is a large Piple tree, secred in Maharashtra. Alandi temple has a secred piple tree. It was hot day and seating below the tree was a bliss. cool breezes around is joyful. The temple us average, moderate size, sqare shaped, golden sloping roofs and the prayer wheels around, typical of Tibetan architecture. Inside there is a shrine with wall having beautiful Tibetan art paintings. Many devotees make fertility blessings for having child. Saw few parents with young children's born out of blessings come for prayer. It is a different experience. Rs 500 is little too much as...

Visit to Chimmi Lakhang might be shocking for few as one can see the depiction of Phalus on almost all houses. You also get soveniors shaped like that :-). Apart from that it is a good place to order some original Buddist art work, which the artisan will deliver to your hotel in Punaka if ordered. Chimi Lhakhang, also known as Chime Lhakhang or Monastery or temple, is a Buddhist monastery in Punakha District, Bhutan. Located near Lobesa, it stands on a round hillock and was founded and built in 1499 by the Drukpa Kagyu lama Ngawang Chogyal, who was the 14th abbot of Ralung Monastery. The site was blessed by Ngawang Chogyal's cousin,[3] Drukpa Kunley (1455–1529), who also built a chorten on the site. In preparing and blessing the site it is said that Lama Kunley subdued a demon of Dochu La with his "magic thunderbolt of wisdom" and trapped it in a rock at the location close to where the chorten now stands. He was known as the "Mad Saint" or “Divine Madman” for his unorthodox ways of teaching Buddhism by singing, humour and outrageous behaviour, which amounted to being bizarre, shocking and with...

Spiritual place located in a calm cool healthy natural environment. Need to walk climb the small mound to reach the temple. Situated 27 km from Punakha. Chime Lhakhang was built in the late 15th century by his cousin brother, Lam Ngawang Choney Lam . Drukpa Kuenley liberated generation after generation of Buddhists from cyclic existence. Buddhists from all over the world come to Chime Lhakhang to pray for the survival and health of their children. Chime Lhakhang Lam Drukpa Kuenley (1455 to 1570) was an enlightened Buddhist master who personified the true essence of Vajrayana tradition that is also known as Crazy Wisdom. This is the profound wisdom that transcends the mundane cultures of religion established by human society. Lam D kpa Kuenley was a social critic who taunted the hypocrisy ofvthe established orders including the monastic order. He subjugated the infamous and much feared demoness of Dochula and buried her...

🌸 Chimi Lhakhang – The Fertility Temple 📍 Location: Near Lobesa, Punakha District, Bhutan A truly unique and spiritually significant place in Bhutan. Known as the Fertility Temple, Chimi Lhakhang is dedicated to the “Divine Madman” Lama Drukpa Kunley, a revered yet unconventional Buddhist saint. Couples from around the world visit here to seek blessings for fertility and children. The walk to the temple is peaceful—about 20 minutes through lush paddy fields and a charming village with traditional Bhutanese houses. The temple itself is serene and surrounded by prayer wheels, and you might even get blessed with a wooden phallus by the monk—a tradition here! Whether you’re spiritual or just curious, it’s a must-visit for its blend of culture, history, and quirkiness.
