Jimi Langtsho (originally Tshaluchoomi Tsho) is located above Tshaluna Ney in Thimphu. Legend has it that a red bull 🐂 belonging to a wealthy family of Tshaluna village was lost and when the daughter of the house went in search of it, the bull was found at the current location. Having found the bull, she patted on the back of the bull out of great relief. As she patted on the back of the bull, the bull is said to have sighed and through its nostrils exhaled warm Vapour which turned into a stream of water. Thus a lake was formed and the bull became the deity and the girl (who belong to the wealthy “Choop”family) became the mermaid of the lake. However, as time elapsed for many people, the lake came to be known as Jimi Langtsho, but originally it’s called as Tashluchoomi Tsho. The lake is believed to bestow wealth if proper and pure offerings are made to the lake. It’s advised that one should offer pure and organic offerings like pure milk from cows (not homogenised milk bought from shops) and thoroughly cleaned copper and silver coins as Nyendhar. It’s a two and half hours of hike for high pacers while 5 hours for snail slow pacers 😂. And all visitors are advised NOT to offer any impure offerings (like biscuits, khadar, paper money, alcohol, juices or homogenised milk) otherwise one might encounter with the bull (red in colour) which is a symbol for harbinger of bad luck 🍀.
