This is a great rescue center for wild animals, probably the largest in Bolivia, were you can also volunteer. Ask for a guided tour to understand well all the work they do. Visiting helps with 60% of the founding to keep the zoo running.

I have found that many people, including myself, have a misconception about zoos, they are no places were wild animals are kept in cages that otherwise would be free, but rather they receive wild animals that have been rescued from animal traffic and in many cases found out of their habitat because of the lost of it due to agriculture, ranching, and deforestation expansion.

They treat their injuries, feed them with a balanced diet for that species and age, reintroduce them to other animals when possible (same or different species), do enrichment for behavior preservation, and clean their living areas 365 days a year, as a consequence animals live 40 to 50% longer than in the wild (that's why most animals look not in their best shape: they are reallllly old!)

I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews. It's not the best zoo I've seen but it was well worth a visit (and the trip to it is memorable).

Many reviews say it's dirty or the animals aren't treated well; I can't confirm that. We only saw one animal that was pacing and not doing well. The condors and the alpacas are amazing.

Adecuada la infraestructura, pero, deben urgentemente renovar los carteles de cada jaula o sector de animales ya que está está muy borrosa ilegible y desde que se inauguró de seguro, debería asignar a un guarda parque o encargado que esté en el área de la laguna y recordarles a los visitantes que NO DEBEN alimentar a los peces, gansos, etc que están en la misma o de otra manera asignar un horario dónde los visitantes puedan alimentar a los peces comprando comida específica para estos que vendan los del mismo zoológico y de esta manera aminorar los gastos que tienen y esto les serviría para los carteles nuevos. MUY RELAJANTE Y HERMOSO estar ahí es inmenso y te olvidas de todo paseando, viendo los animales. OTRO TEMA TRASLADEN O HAGAN QUE SE TRASLADEN LA PISTA DE CUADRATRUCKS del lado del zoológico que desubicación que continúen después de tanto tiempo total estrés en ese sector en especial para los CONDORES.
