Valle de la Luna, located in the outskirts of La Paz, Bolivia, is a truly unique natural wonder that left me absolutely mesmerized. This natural park is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to the region, and the ticket price of 15 Bob for foreigners is more than worth it. From the moment I arrived at Valle de la Luna, I was struck by the otherworldly beauty of the landscape. The park features an incredible array of rock formations, canyons, and valleys, each of which has been shaped by centuries of natural erosion. The landscape is simply breathtaking, with a mix of earthy tones and vibrant colors that create an otherworldly experience. Walking along the trails in the park was an incredible experience. The rock formations are unique and stunning, and I felt like I was walking on another planet. The natural light that filters through the canyons and valleys creates a play of light and shadow that is simply mesmerizing. Every step I took in Valle de la Luna revealed a new and fascinating landscape that left me in awe. The park is very well maintained and clean, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They provided me with useful information about the history of the park and the rock formations, which helped me appreciate the beauty of the place even more. In summary, Valle de la Luna is a natural wonder that should be on everyone's list of must-see destinations in La Paz. The ticket price of 15 Bob for foreigners is more than reasonable for the incredible experience it provides. If you're looking for a unique and awe-inspiring natural attraction, Valle de la Luna is the perfect destination for you.

What has happened over the countless centuries when strong winds have battered the clay and sandstone mountains is that you now have a wonderful natural phenomenon which looks like a vast tapestry of stalagmites called “VALLE DE LA LUNA” or the Valley of the Moon. This is quite typical of the mountains surrounding the La Paz region. Valley of the Moon is about 20 to 30 minute drive from La Paz near the small town of Mallasa. The entry ticket is 15BOB for foreigners and 3BOB for locals. A trail takes you into the valley and along the formations. Like any trail over natural terrain it is uneven and narrow at places but many spots to sit and enjoy the beauty and take photos as well. It can take about an hour to two hours to walk the entire trail and take in the fascinating natural wonder. In 1969 Neil Armstrong, the man who walked on the moon, while playing golf at a nearby golf course saw this formation and it reminded him of what he saw on the moon and hence the name - Valley of the Moon. Special note:- While walking on the trails, please talk in low voices as the sound carries and gets amplified in narrow surroundings.

Really cool area, much smaller than anticipated. There are two walkways, one which takes 45 minutes and the other which takes 15. I stopped to take plenty of photos, and both trails (the entire place) took me just under 30 minutes. That included me stopping to take a bunch of photos. Happy I went because not only is Valle de la Luna pretty cool, but the surrounding mountains are beautiful (deep red color with green). So don't forget to look up while you're in Valle de la Luna and admire the backdrop, as well. 😃 Getting to and from was very easy and inexpensive with micros (the small buses)... On the way there just hop in a micro that says "Mallasa" in the windshield and tell the driver Valle de la Luna so he knows to stop there along the way. To return to Centro La Paz, walk 20 meters down the hill outside the Valle de la Luna entrance and wait at the bus stop for a micro with a "Perez V" sign in the windshield. That southern area of the city seemed very wealthy and very safe, so no worries there.

Visited here in March, 2020. This place is literally like the moon and we can feel we get lost in a different world. It is also worth knowing more in the perspective of geology and this region's long history (even though I have no backgrounds in this field). Those who like these fields would definitely love this moon valley. Personally I think this mysterious valley should be emphasized much more as one of the best sightseeing spots in Bolivia. As for its access, this is a little far from the downtown, taking about 1 hour by bus. The thing is that local people seemingly know that this valley is kind of popular among tourists, and they taught me the right bus stop when strolling around to find it even though I didn't say I wanna go there. Anyhow enjoy your trip here, and be careful about bees (there are a lot).

This is a municipal protected area of a geological formation, located around 10klm away from La Paz city centre. You can come here with Mi Teleferico and then grab a mini bus that will leave you outside the entrance after a 30' drive. The name of the place was given by Neil Armstrong who happened to be in the area in 1969 for a golf match. When he witnessed the place, it resembled a lot to the surface of the moon that he very recently had visited. The soil is made of clay which has a high degree of erosion from rainwater and atmospheric elements. The end result is a desert of rocky stalagmites.
