Review of Camp Tara Drina Rafting Center near Foča

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Camp Tara Drina Rafting Center near Foča, and it was an unforgettable experience. Nestled in a stunning natural setting right on the River Drina, the camp offers a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.

We stayed in a luxury cottage with my two kids. While the cottage was small and basic, it was also charming, comfortable, and impeccably clean. One thing to note is that there is no WiFi available in the cottage itself, but you can easily connect at the nearby camp restaurant.

The restaurant is a delightful open-air space under a wooden roof, offering a wide selection of traditional regional dishes. There's no set menu, so you get to enjoy whatever is on offer that day. The variety and quality of the food were consistently excellent, making each meal a treat.

The camp's location right next to the River Drina adds to its charm. There's an amazing café with a balcony overlooking the emerald-green river, where you can watch the rafting boats end their journey twice a day. The view alone is worth a visit.

Rafting is the central experience at the camp, and it's included in the package. We went rafting in August, and while the water level was low, making the ride more leisurely than thrilling, the natural beauty surrounding us was nothing short of magical. For those seeking more excitement, I’d recommend visiting between April and June when the water levels are higher. Also, Saturdays can be quite crowded, but by Sunday, it was much more relaxed, so I imagine weekdays would be even more peaceful.

In addition to rafting, the camp offers a variety of other activities, including hiking, quad riding, zip-lining, and even multi-day excursions with overnight stays in tents in the Tara River Canyon. There's something for everyone, whether you're an adrenaline junkie or just looking to enjoy the great outdoors.

One of the highlights of our stay was the live music on Friday and Saturday nights. A local band played fantastic traditional music, which added a lively and authentic touch to our evenings. While the nights were a bit loud due to the festivities, if you enjoy the vibrant nightlife typical of the Balkans, this amazing party experience is definitely worth it.

The staff at Camp Tara Drina were incredibly kind and professional, clearly dedicated to providing the best possible experience for their guests. During our stay, the camp was mostly filled with guests aged 20 to 40, but we also saw families with young children, which added to the friendly, communal atmosphere.

Overall, my time at Camp Tara Drina was a great way to recharge and immerse myself in nature. If you enjoy active holidays and beautiful surroundings, I highly recommend this camp. I’ll definitely be...

I just don't understand the insanely high ratings on this place. For me it was OK, but with a lot to improve. Reception without enthusiasm nor a smile, bungalow so hot during the day so impossible to relax in there but nowhere else to go except the restaurant and the bar where loud music is constantly played. Food was "smart" and generous, but not impressive for the quality. Making a large plate to share with variety of items is clever because it looks spectacular. But some items (like burek, chicken wings and potatoes) were very dry and not warm enough. They make a huge portion of meal that nobody is finishing but people seem to be happy with that. So much food is wasted here every day. At 11pm on a week day, the music from the restaurant was so loud that we could hear every words of those ex-yu songs (which were honestly a good playlist), although there were only a few tables left at the restaurant. At 1 am, there were people talking and singing loud from the empty, dark restaurant (kitchen staff?). Our driver to the rafting starting point was smoking inside the vehicle and throwing his cigarettes out of the window. We are right across the river from Sutjeska NP. What a shameful and disrespectful manner! Talking about the shame, go down to the river from the camp and walk a few steps to the right, there is a hose coming down from the camp and some sewage smelling water is coming out from it to enter into the beautiful Drina! About the rafting, our skiper was a nice guy, we all enjoyed our rafting at the end but I can't say he was very professional. He wasn't giving clear instructions, he doesn't know how to coordinate people, and although we were a international team, he was only talking with a croatian girl in local language instead of adressing to everybody in English. I would still recommend this place because rafting was nice, you need to drive only one way to the starting point then just rafting down to the camp, which is awesome. Generally it's clean, and a good value for money. But I hope the management will keep making effort in spite of excellent comments of people, because to my eyes there were a lot to improve comparing to the other camps...

Great rafting experience!!! For the families with smaller kids too!!!.

Food was fab (perhaps too much of it) Staff, very hardworking and deserve every tip they can get. Some of them look scarily strong but then when you see how many rubber boats they have to pull and carry on a daily basis, no wonder. I have to share something that happened to me which shows there are still kind and genuine people out there. Long story short, when checking out around 3pm, by the car park on the grass next to the sleeping huts I have somehow managed to leave my last bag behind (passports, cash, laptops, wallet, important other paperwork). 8 hours later and 3 hours away next to the Croatian border, I realised the bag was missing. It was midnight but i had to call one of the 3 numbers (contact numbers for Tara rafting) and the gentleman answered straight away and got in touch with the reception who found the bag where it was left. Anyone could have during those long 8 hours looked into the bag/taken it away. The staff (you know who you are 😊) went to such a length to ensure everything is recorded in order nothing goes missing. He has organised for the bag to be driven to Trebinje where I have met the driver and collected the bag. Guys, I still can’t get over the fact how lucky I was and how kind you were, you who have taken that call, the receptionist who has found the bag and organised everything else to the driver. Hvala od srca jos jednom!!! Best wishes and hope to see...

We are family of four(kids age 12&9) from UK.This is our second time in this camp and we hope to come again. We can't fault it.We flew from Luton to Sarajevo airport and the transfer to and from camp was easily arranged in advance. Our driver was waiting for us and drove us safely to the camp making a stop at the shop for us on the way there to get some local snacks.😁The cabins are spotless, spacious enough and with everything we needed for our five day stay here.Last time we've done two days of rafting and this time we opted for one rafting and one hiking tour to Trnovačko lake.We found hiking harder then we anticipated but it was a wonderful experience, due to the great organisation.Food at the camp is first class, all locally sourced, prepared in traditional way.I challenge anyone to feel hunger while here, locals take a great pride in having their guests well fed.😁We spoke to two ladies who said they are vegetarians and they were also delighted with food options. After traveling to many places around the world,Rafting centre Drina-Tara is still our favourite place for holiday.Hvala najlepše!

If You are young and want to party, this can be right place for You. Too many people, in one place. At night, live music and party time till early morning. Accommodation could be slightly better. We had 3 bed apartment with toilet and for 3 big guys, it was not so spacious. Apartments are two close to each others and at night, can be too noisy and hard to sleep. Especially when You have lot of wasted guys, going back after party. Food was great. No complains on it. Rafting was ok but it could be better. We were chasing back to camp because, schedule was like that. Just one short stoppage. But it don't needs to be like that. I had much better rafting's in one other camp. We came to enjoy in everything and not to chase anything. Prices are high and prepare Your wallet. Service was ok but personal feeling is that everything revolves around money. Wrong impresion for such a place. There are better camps in neighborhood and I wouldn't recommend this one.

This was one of the most amazing vacation, this place was just so magical! The cabins and the restaurant had such a wonderful atmosphere, with people gathering around playing sports and enjoying drinks and food. Restaurant served all traditional Serbian food, it was really delicious. Nature around it’s just something special, quiet and peaceful, very relaxing. On the top or everything we did rafting two days in a row, cus we liked the adrenaline so much, we wanted to do it again. It was not disappointing. Great and very experienced skipper Nemanja did amazing job, making us feel secure and entertained the whole time, making sure we had such a fun experience on our first time rafting. Would highly recommend this place to everyone.
