If you want a personal and meaningful interaction with elephants, this is not the place for you. Much of your time will be spent listening to the workers talking. And every minute you are there, you will be separated from the elephants by some type of barrier. It doesnât need to be that way. Go on U-Tube and search âBaby Elephant Playing with Humanâ. Those videos - thatâs what I was hoping for. But my experience there was far less than that. My wife and I arrived as just us two, but they mixed us in with another group, making about 10 of us. When you finally get to touch the elephants through the barrier, you simply give them apple chunks which they eat and then ignore you. You can stroke their heads, but they give no indication they enjoy it. They merely tolerate it. DONATIONS: We were flat-out told we were âexpectedâ to make a donation. Expected? Itâs perfectly okay to ask for a donation, but when you are told you are expected to, for me that crosses the line. We made a donation of $100.00 USD, and it was met with no enthusiasm. From their reaction, we felt they were disappointed and expected more. Iâm sorry, but given the limited and overly-restricted access we had, and thrown into a group of people we did not know, I feel $100.00 USD is more than fair. We left feeling very disappointed, and will...
Read moreVisiting Elephant Havens was one of the absolute highlights of our Botswana road trip in mid-September. We joined a 3-hour tour in exchange for a donation â and honestly, it was money we could not have spent better. This experience touched us deeply and will always stay close to our hearts.
Of course, the adorable elephant babies and their heartbreaking rescue stories make it unforgettable, but what truly makes this place so special are the incredible people behind it. You can feel the love, passion, and dedication that fill Elephant Havens â itâs clear that everyone there is doing this work from the heart.
Our special thanks go to Brian and KT, but also to the entire team who took such great care of us and shared so much knowledge with us. Weâve already decided to take on sponsorships to stay connected to this beautiful place and support their mission further.
If you are anywhere near Maun, do not miss Elephant Havens. Itâs a place you simply must...
Read moreWe spent a wonderful hour with the elephant orphans and the dedicated people who look after them. Kay who guided our experience was extemely welcoming and gave a wealth of interesting facts about the individual orphans as well as about elephants in general. We were especially impressed with the careful way in which an informative experience is managed so that any detrimental impact on the elephants is minimised We would urge future visitors to pledge a regular monthly donation to...
