My wife and I rented the entire island of Ilha do Breu for two days for our wedding on July 19th, so I would say that I know the island very well. It is true that the views from the Island are beautiful. However, the infrastructure there is badly-neglected and needs many renovations, dangerous, and designed in bad taste and the owners are not honest or nice people. One of my groom’s men almost got seriously injured there when one of the wooden planks on a deck broke when he stepped on it and his entire leg fell through the deck. Many of the planks in the decks bend when you step on them and they are clearly very unsafe. Many lights, locks, and other things in the suites don’t work correctly. Mattresses have fungus growing on them. Electric wires are duct taped to the walls. Bathrooms are nasty. I am certain that the structures on the island would fail a safety and compliance inspection in many, many ways. They require A LOT of serious, difficult, and expensive renovations. Also, Berenice (one of the owners of the island) lied to us about many things and was generally rude to us, our staff, and even her own staff. She lied about all of the following to get us to sign the contract with them for our wedding and later refused to give us any discount when confronted about her lies and even tried to take our deposit on top of that without justification: 1. She promised us that they would complete many renovations on the suites during the seven months prior to the wedding. Those repairs were a major condition for deciding to rent the island, as the 18 suites were in bad shape and we needed them to be improved before our family and close friends would feel comfortable staying on the island. They ended up completing ZERO repairs and everything was in fact in worse shape and dirtier for our wedding. So we were forced to find other accommodations and spend a bunch more money under high stress for all of our guests and ourselves at the last moment before our wedding. Berenice’s reply when we asked her about this was that she didn’t write those repairs into our contract that we signed, so too bad for us! 2. She promised repeatedly that the island had its own microclimate and that there were absolutely no mosquitos on the island. Shortly before our wedding, we found out that she lied and that there were in fact mosquitos there. When confronted about this, she again told us that our contract didn’t promise that there were no mosquitos, so too bad for us. 3. During my first visit to the island, I became concerned about the safety of all of the wooden decks. The planks felt weak/old/rotting to me, so I asked her about them multiple times. She promised me repeatedly that they were 100% safe, that nobody had ever gotten hurt there and even told me that a helicopter had landed on them with no issues. In the end, this was obviously a big lie and multiple people nearly got injured during our wedding, so I can only imagine how many people must have gotten hurt there over time… I have included some pictures I took from the island so that you can get a clearer idea of what I am talking about. I hope this review is helpful!

I went here for a wedding, which was lovely, but the Island was terrible. Do not go to Ilha do Breu, it's not worth it. The island has a lot of cheap and treacherous wooden decking, I almost fell completely through when a board broke under my foot (picture included). Several other people nearly fell due to the dangerous conditions of the deck. It's just a disaster waiting to happen and it would need a ton of work and investment to make it decent. The rooms barely had working lights/plugs and there was no hot water. Avoid this island.

Attended a wedding here. Felt like I was walking on eggshells when walking the wooden planks the wedding was hosted on. Visited the Island before and was told the rooms would be cleaned for renovated for guest use, however this promise was not kept and I was not able to use the rooms considering the condition they were in. Additionally during the wedding it was clear that there were still repairs to be made and the island was not professionally prepared. The location is nice and has great potential but it was not lived up to.
