Scrub Island — Attraction in Other British Virgin Islands

Pros- scrub Island is absolutely stunning. They recently renovated the entire property after the two hurricanes in September 2018. Everything is top notch Quality and they did not skimp on anything! My friends and I visited the second day after their grand reopen from the hurricane. Our experience was priceless as there might have been 10 guest on the entire Island,....so yes, it was like owning your own private island! My friends and I visited during 10/2018. The staff was very friendly and nice five stars!!

Cons- The property was still under construction in some areas, loud construction noises were unavoidable. Forget sleeping in and enjoying your peaceful morning coffee with picture perfect views. The workers arrived on the island by speed boat early AM and would holler amongst each other every morning. They were scattered all over the property gawking at guest, not a great feeling. Their fitness center is unacceptable. Some workers would sit in there and rest during lunch / breaks, they tracked they’re filthy work boots throughout the fitness center, and interruptions every couple of minutes with their personal use of guest water machine. Food was limited in the restaurants, Understanding.

*NOTE!!!! Travel to Scrub Island was a painfully horrifying experience I will never forget. Depending on weekdays / weekends The ferry can shut down which allows only one transporting to all the surrounding islands. If you are traveling from St Thomas, you must buy a ferry ticket to Road Town ( $160 per person round trip with luggage fees ) There are two ferry location in St Thomas, Charlotte Amalie and Red hook. Both ferry take you there, however, they are backwards island people,..... they can tell you seats are available until they are suddenly not for whatever reason ( surprised sudden changes ). Charlotte Amalie is a smaller ferry terminal then Red hook and limited to departure time. If you miss the ferry at Charlotte Amalie, you can head over to Redhook,... another 45 mins and a taxi fare. You then wait for the next available ferry to Road Town which is a nice but long 2hrs. Next, debark at road town Ferry terminal and clear their customs ( filling out detailed custom form to the officers liking), again, strange way of island business. Then, scrub island has a gentlemen waiting to transport you to scrub island dock. If you are not in the window of the pick up time, you will have to catch a taxi ride ( 45 mins, $60 for 2 ). Lastly, arrive at scrub Island dock, scrub island staff situated you in speed boat and gets you to Pier. I just felt terrible for family with small children. On the way back is not much better. If you have a flight to catch, make sure you get correct ferry departure schedule. They change their schedules without notice and resort employees were wrong in our case. We had to charter a private boat for 4 people back to St. John’s, get off with passports, and clear customs. Then get back on and head to Red Hook ferry dock which cost almost $800, that’s without another $ 80 taxi fare to resort. This would be worth it if you are staying a week on Scrub with out the above nuisances. We were there for two days,.... I would NEVER make this commute for...

We were in the BVIs for a week on a boat charter and thought it would be nice to moor in a slip for one night with added flexibility to get on and off the boat. We booked the slip months in advance and were required to pay upfront which was expected due to visiting during New Years week. Upon arrival in an 80' catamaran we were directed to a 50' slip. This created a real challenge when getting on and off the boat...only by ladder. The dock attendant was more than rude to the boat captain and appeared to hate his job. Incorrect information was provided concerning power and water connections which required operating the generator during our stay in the marina. Once leaving the boat we expected a 5 star environment. While the property was nice, the overall attitude of the staff in the lobby, in the deli and around the resort was not friendly with the exception of one Bartender we encountered at the pool named Donnette. She was very cordial, seemed to appreciate her guests and is the reason for my second star.

Given the reduction in tourism due to Hurricane Irma we expected to see happy and welcoming attitudes as tourists returned. This was not the case at Scrub Island. We followed Scrub Island on social media for months prior to our trip and were so excited to get there only to be immediately let down upon arrival to our inadequate slip by a rude dock hand. I would do a lot of research before booking as I am sure there are other options. We left Scrub Island very disappointed and feeling like we wasted a full...

Not that i really need to pile on all the exceptional and accurate reviews already submitted. The accomodations are splendid, the island unspoiled, peaceful and gorgeous. The views match any that we have seen in our world travels like Santorini or Amalfi coast. But what separates Scrub from all other destinations we have visited was the amazing , personable service that we consistently received everywhere on the island, from Troy at the beach bar to all the employees in the restaurants, too many to mention. Ms. Fayon at front desk and Murcella and Shevon at the concierge desk were invaluable to our experience. Food at the restaurants was relly quite surprisingly good, as we were expecting the usual humdrum hotel restaurant food, but all the meals we had were really comparable to what you would expect from any really good restaurant, whether it was Donovans or the fine dining at Cardamom. We were amazed that they have incredibly fresh ingredients on an island! And some reaally great selections, beautifully and deliciously prepared, and served by some real pros.

If you can swing it, get one of the villas. The 2 bedroom villa is a bit more than geting 2 separate one bedrooms but oh so worth it. We had a hard time tearing ourselves away from the villa to go to the beach or pools, because the villa was so comfortable and had incredible views.

If you are looking for somewhere to unplug (although they have excellent FREE internet connections throughout the resort) and unwind, go no further, this is paradise ,...
