What an amazing place! There is one man working in the visitor center and he will go out of his way to make sure you enjoy your trip. But, you're kinda expected to buy something at some point. We took the offer for a banana smoothie after hiking the park and it was appreciated by both parties! On the day we visited, we were there by cruise ship. It was hard to find a taxi willing to take us so far out of the tourist area. We agreed to a rather high price and he gave his phone number to the man in the visitor center so that we could be collected after. The man told us there have been times he has had to bring people back to the port because the driver left them. We, thankfully, didn't have that problem. The trails are well marked and easy to hike. Wear sneakers and bring water, but aside from that you don't need much besides very basic physical abilities. We didn't see anyone else while we were there, and the beauty was breathtaking. I recommend sage mountain to everyone...
Read moreA quick walk through the jungle to the highest point in the entire Virgin Islands. You can take the short loop for a one hour hike or the long loop for a 2 hour hike. We took the kids so we just did the short hike. My 4 year old daughter had little difficulty making it. Almost the entire way is shaded by the canopy and it is a few degrees cooler up there. Best for a morning hike if you can. The summit has no view except jungle but there is also a viewing platform nearby that looks east ish towards road town.
There is also a nice man with a bar and gift shop at the base that will happily explain everything to you and give you a trail map with the signs and gates marked. He also makes really good banana smoothies. Like really good. Cash only until $30 then...
Read moreThis trail may have been amazing if we could get to it. Unfortunately, we were not able to access it. The road was very poorly maintained. We ended up parking our car when we didn't feel safe to drive forward anymore. As we walked further down the "road" towards the start of the trail, we were slowly engulfed by long grass and shrubs on either side. You can't really access this trail. We were worried about bugs or creatures in the long grass. The only way I can think you can get there would be on a 4 wheeler or...
