Jong Batu — Attraction in Buang Tekurok

This is place where story was told from generation to generation where a poor mother (Dang Ambon) paddled her small boat to the direction of the big ship (jong). She wanted to reunite with her beloved son (Manis) that she had never seen for quite long time.

His son (Nakhoda Manis) was indeed very rich but he ashamed seeing Dang Ambon poor old women. Nakhoda Manis reluctant to see Dang Ambon and pretend not knowing her and turned away from his mother.

The heartbroken mother than cursed the ship that full of riches – riches that had taken her son’s love away from her.

God fulfill her cursed, there was a heavy storm, rain, thunder and lightning!!! When the storm cleared, her son’s ship was gone and in its place was a huge rock in the sea. The big ship (Jong Batu) had turned...

So many folklore attached to Jong Batu told by the elderly to their young ones but all are quite similar. Batu means stone.

Jong Batu is also a good spot for fishing. I have seen fish during high or low tide. 1 fisherman caught a 10 - 12 kg fish here. He was struggling to lift and show to me.

Grab a water taxi to take you here from the waterfront. Bargain for a comfortable price with them. Please remember it's quite a distance to get here.
