Cape Kaliakra is one of the most beautiful and historic Capes in Europe. Situated close to the Romanian border, it is a favourite stop for tourists looking for pretty sights and interesting historic places to visit north of Varna. The fortress was successively used by Tracians, Romans, Byzantines and Bulgarians.According to legends, the fortress was guarding the treasuries of Lyzimah, successor of Alexander the Great. Today there are quite many remains of those ancient settlements, which can be seen exhibited in a small museum. One can also read there a legend telling the story of several Bulgarian girls who chose to jump from the high cape into the sea but not to be captured and converted to Islam by the Turks. The Kaliakra cape was declared a protected area in 1941.It is one of the few places where the rare species of sea and bird life. Nearby he Durankulak Lake is famous for hosting more than 250 rare species – fish, reptiles, amphibians, marsh birds and plants, many of them included in the Red Book of Bulgaria. The lake is declared a protected area. But it is not only nature that attracts experts and tourists to this place. On the Big island, in the lake, is located an archaeological park called by the scientists “Bulgarian Troy”.At Cape Kaliakra, you will find endless ways to fill your days from Golf on three of the finest courses in Europe, bathing in several private beaches to indulging in a pampering massage. As the sun sets over the coast, enjoy dining in our luxury restaurants or head into Varna for a taste of Bulgaria’s nightlife at our largest coastal city. Then retreat to the luxury of a spacious guest room or our fully serviced Villas, and let your dreams...

Don't visit in summer, it's way too hot and there was almost no wind, which was surprising for such a narrow cape. Lots of tourists there and a bad vibe from the military post. You want to get to the cape, right? There is one easy way, from the restaurant to the left, where you'll wait for others to do their selfies and then enjoy the view for a handful of minutes, while the next tourists, waiting for selfies, stare holes into your back. There is another, difficult and dangerous way, from the restaurant to the right, where you'll roast on the hot stones (my feet got hot through the shoes, on a supposedly 30°C day), walking down unsecured crumbly steps where you can get to an unsecured "balcony" near the cliffs. The view is amazing, however do not go there with dogs, kids, elderly or anyone who is afraid of heights. To reiterate, it's unsecured and you can plummet down 20+ meters into a certain death, so better take the safe tourist-y route to the left, after...

"Kaliakra (Bulgarian: Калиакра; Romanian: Caliacra) is a cape in the Southern Dobruja region of the northern Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, which ends with a long and narrow headland 12 kilometres (7 mi) east of Kavarna, 60 kilometres (37 mi) northeast of Varna and 65 kilometres (40 mi) southwest of Mangalia. The coast is steep with vertical cliffs reaching 70 metres (230 ft) down to the sea. Kaliakra is a nature reserve, where dolphins and cormorants can be observed. It sits on the Via Pontica, a major bird migration route from Africa into Eastern and Northern Europe. Many rare and migrant birds can be seen here in spring and autumn and, like much of this coastline, is home to several rare breeding birds (e.g. pied wheatear and a local race of European shag). The rest of the reserve also has unusual breeding birds; saker falcon, lesser grey shrike and a host...

One of my favourite places at the Bulgarian sea side. I read a lot of negative reviews here, and it seems like pointless complaints in my opinion. “There are just rocks”, “There is no shade”, “I didn’t find it that interesting”, “Its expensive”. Well cmon people, it’s an archeological site, it’s supposed to be mostly rocks. And yes, because of the local fauna, there will be no shade as trees don’t grow on rocks. It will be very hot in the summer. If you go there just for the selfies, you can spare yourself the 3lv per person and go on one of the many other capes at the sea side. And btw, 3lv is completely reasonable for included parking. However, if you would like to see beautiful nature, and you have some curiosity and appreciation for the history and the myth of the settlers on this cape, then you’re going to have a great time!
