An ideal place for walks and relaxation. Almost at the entrance to the town of Lukovit, when coming from Sofia. Right next to the road and the start of the eco-trail there is a separate, rather large parking lot. The terrain is not steep and is comfortable even for children. It is recommended not to visit during rainy seasons because the terrain becomes slippery and in places the river can flood sections, although rarely. Near the start of the eco-trail, you can rent a boat or pedal boat. The one-way boat to "Dark Hole" cave is BGN 5. per person and it takes about 7 minutes to get there. I think the water wheel was BGN 20 per hour. Usually a person has decided to go for a walk and to the cave it is about 50 minutes of normal walking and it is about 1.9 km. There are secured wooden bridges built along the path and each of them has a name. At the end of the path there are coffee machines and other vending machines, also there is the entrance to the cave "Dark Hole", the rock corner "St. George" and a zoo corner with peacocks. The walk is wonderful both on foot and by boat. I recommend! GPS entrance eco trail -...

More advised to do it with sports shoes (I saw a lot of people in sandals / flip flops, but there are stairs, bridges, rocks, caves, etc).
Bring sun screen, insect repellant, a hat for shade, some water.
There are refreshment points at the start & end of the path (with ice cream, drinks, snacks).
The walkable path stretches up until point 9 of the trail, out of a a total of 20 points. If you choose to do this, one way and return lasts about 1 hour.
You also have the option to go only by water and do the whole trail (by kayak or hydrobicycle). In this case you are not allowed to get out on the land, you can only do the 20 points by water. This whole ride takes about 2 hours both ways. The kayak was 25 leva / hour - you can pay with cash only!
And there is also the option that combines them. Where you go by boat until point 20 and then come back on foot from point 9. (or the other way - go by foot until point 9 and come...
Read moreThis is an easy trail, perfect for an outing with family and friends. While it’s not particularly spectacular, the walk along the river is peaceful and enjoyable, with a few charming bridges anchored into the rock walls. There are also plenty of spots for picnics, making it a good place to spend a leisurely day.
For those who wish to explore beyond the pedestrian path, there are opportunities to rent boats, pedalos, and kayaks. However, the use of motorboats feels out of place in a location that promotes an ecological experience. While motorboats may benefit visitors with mobility issues or transport people to different points along the river, pedal boats would be sufficient without disturbing the natural atmosphere.
It’s worth noting that the trail is not accessible for wheelchairs, and the bridges can be a bit challenging for some. The steps are narrow and may feel unsafe, and during peak hours, the bridges’ limited width can lead to considerable waits as...
