The parking lot is about 1 km from the site with slight descent towards the site but on the return one needs to climb back. As I have mobility problems I asked the person selling the tickets to let us drive in and he kindly agreed. Thanks, buddy! Fact remains that who ever designed the site as a tourist attraction did not care at all about persons with mobility problems! The site itself is dangerous to be visited even by healthy athletes! Uneven stone steps are supposed to be the stairs. There are wooden poles branches cut from nearby trees intended to be handrails. Just pathetic! Even if one climbs to the top of the site walking on millennia old structure it is impossible to see the sarcophagus without precariously stepping on the edge of the rocks and risking to fall into the abyss. The site badly needs a new construction of steels rails and steps plus observation platforms allowing visitors conveniently to see the sanctuary from above without walking on the original stone structure. Read moreWonderful views. One the famous local sightseengs, entiant historical. There is an entrance fee but you can avoid it if you go after the working hours. They were doing some restavration the last time I went but I believe they shouldn't cause it doesn't look as it was. Be careful with small kids as it's really high. Read moreClose to the village of Tatul, this is a ancient Thracian tomb and sanctuary from around the 3rd millennium BC. It also features a later defensive tower from around the 4-3rd century BC. The views are spectacular and the whole complex is an excellent place for families. Children can also discover and climb a few smaller rocks in the surrounding forest.
