I am a Bulgarian born, American citizen. I have called the USA home for the last 35 years of my life. I came to America at 12 years old. I am a VERY PROUD American citizen, at that. I came to show my wife (also American) the beautiful rose valley and Damascena only to be hit in the face with a VERY OFFENSIVE and disrespectful message about the USA. One was a cherub looking statue wrapped in an American flag urinating on the world. I was so disgusted and shocked, I didn’t even get a picture. The photo I used was the exact one except, this time, our USA flag was around the statue. The other statue was a portrayal of Lady Liberty with dragon like features emulating “freeing” the world only to take advantage for monetary gain. This was the biggest slap in the face as I visited my birth country, and was excited to support the local economy. BUT as a proud AMERICAN, I will never (!!!!!) support a place that slaps my beautiful country in the face. You have ZERO idea of what America is, what America has done for my family, and for the COUNTLESS other Bulgarian families that have come to the USA and been able to make a wonderful life there. Also, for the many legal immigrants, that call America HOME. What a travesty to have such limited resources available around you, and yet, spit on other countries. Consider the fact that many people may be traveling and touring your area, and venue, and to walk in and see such a disgrace is sickening. Shame on you. AMERICA LOVES and RESPECTS other countries and would never do such a disgusting thing. You will never a find a place in the USA that makes fun of other countries and disgraces their flag. BTW- we were prepared to spend some good $ today enjoying your place and we walked away because of this. Signed, a proud Bulgarian born,...

My husband and I visited Damascena Ethnographic complex last week and were very disappointed! First, price was pretty high, no tour guide to show you around. I am Bulgarian but haven’t been 35 years in the country. My husband is American and I wanted to show him the beauty of the Bulgarian Rose. First impression was good. Nice set up, historic side, lake and waterfall with swans, rosarium and big stage for outdoor concerts or festivals. Restaurant on the side with extremely high prices. On the way out, at the front entrance there was a big rock painted like the American flag, a statue of little boy covered with the American flag, urinating over the world glob! We were speechless! I didn’t know what to say to my husband. There were many groups of tourists and 2 of them spoke American English. When I asked at the ticket booth to speak with the manager on duty about the anti American display, I was told I quote “ This display is purposely there to express the owner’s attitude towards America! To make his political statement! “ What a disgrace! The owner showed his arrogance and ignorance towards another nation. Wrong place to make a political statement! I DO NOT RECOMMEND Damascena Ethnographic...

Damascene Ethnographic Complex is located in Skobelevo, Pavel Banya Municipality. The complex has a small museum, a huge garden, a restaurant, an artificial waterfall and a rose brewery, where visitors can observe the production of rose oil and learn various facts about Rosa Damascena and the oil it produces.

The complex has an ancient distillery called "gulapana" which is made as the installations for the production of rose oil in the Rose Valley were made more than 340 years ago. Visitors to the complex will be able to watch a demonstration of the rosé process throughout the season and they will feel the spirit of the old tradition.

Near the old distillery, guests of the complex can see the modern working distillery and watch the roasting process during its season. The new installation also works on the principle of water-steam distillation, but is built of large facilities with larger capacity and automated work processes.

Here, along with the production of rose oil, rose water is also produced, which is done at the end of the campaign, when the amount of rose blossoms decreases.

In the garden restaurant you can eat traditional dishes and try Gyul brandy, among a huge...
