"Antique Ceramic Center" is located near the town of Pavlikeni, about 500 meters north of the road connecting the town of Pavlikeni and the village of Varbovka. It was discovered by accident in 1971, when a furnace for firing household ceramics was found. Excavations began the same year and gradually over the years more than 50 furnaces were discovered, as well as a Roman villa and numerous pottery. An area of about 9,900 sq. km has been studied. The complex has been declared the first open-air museum. It has been established that the complex dates back to the end of the 1st century AC, during which time it was under Roman rule. Part of the discovered objects are stored in a building of the complex, and another part is in museums in V. Tarnovo and Sofia. On 09/02 and 09/03/2023, the "Ancient Balkan Land" festival was held there, including ancient rituals, music, demonstrations of making ceramic products, a reenactment of a battle during attacks on the territory by the Goths in the 4th century, when the villa was attacked and destroyed. I recommend the visit with a talk, you will learn a lot of things that would otherwise escape you. The place is well maintained and is easily accessible for children, the elderly and the disabled. No problems with parking. Viewing the site for about an hour. If possible, combine with a visit to other sites in the area. GPS -...
