Silistar Beach is a secluded beach strip, which is also comfortably spacious. There is enough space for everyone who decides to bring their own beach gear whilst also offering enough sunbeds and umbrellas for the people who prefer that. The water is clean because there aren't many buildings in proximity to the beach. However, because of its secluded nature, the beach itself does not appear to be cleaned often, and there were cigarettes and other leftovers in the sand. There are only a few establishments that offer food and drinks, and they do so at ridiculously high prices, so I advise against visiting them and bringing your own food instead.
The parking is in the forest behind the beach, which also means there aren't a whole lot of parking spots, and on a busy day this can be a problem as the area is surrounded by woods. Driving down the road to the beach itself is also not a pleasant experience because it is a dirt road, which is also...
Read moreAfter reaching the location through 500m of what could be boldly considered as a 'road', you are welcomed with a surprise- surprise parking fee of 5lv collected by a dodgy person with tattoos. The parking itself is just a piece of land in mud, so beware of holes and navigate carefully. If you are early or lucky you might find a place to park in the shade.
The beach itself is nothing special - sand locked between rocky hights with forest in the back. The beach strip is rather wide, but at the back there are some buildings that make sunbathing uncomfortable. Although there is a warning sign for unguarded beach, on our occasion there were several lifeguards present.
To me the dealbreaker was the crowd of people that day - it was as if I were on the Primorsko beach. The whole idea of having a more-or-less virgin place you could be at quite with the sea and the waves was obviously a mirage. Definately not going back...
Read moreI recently visited this beach, which I had heard is one of the best beaches around during the main season. However, my off-season experience was extremely disappointing. It looked as if a storm had swept through, leaving everything in disarray and destruction. Maybe there was a storm, but where is the cleaning?
The first thing that hit me was the overwhelming smell of sewage and urine. It was everywhere, making it almost unbearable to stay for long. The sunbeds and toilets were in a state of complete disrepair, with no signs of any recent cleaning or maintenance.
The view, which I imagine is stunning during peak season, was marred by the sight of debris and neglect. It's hard to believe that this beach is considered one of the best in the area when it looks like this off-season.
Overall, my visit was a huge letdown. I hope the city takes note and makes the necessary improvements to restore this beach to its...
