This park is the most underestimated park in Sofia. It is located in the west part of the city on the way to Serbia. It is vast. This surprised me the most. I intended to have a 1 hour walk and cover, let's say 2-2.5 km /with my dog/, but I ended up with 5.8 km and 1h30min steady fast walk. When I saw the map, I did not cover even 30% of the territory. So that means if you are a group of enthusiasts and want to make an easy walk on almost even terrain, the Zapaden park can be a place for you. It was recently renovated, but in my humble opinion, the result is not WOW. Dogs can be walked freely if the dog is not aggressive towards other dogs and humans. Please, if you want to walk the dog freely, make sure it is under control when children or families with children are approaching. The big part of the park is deep forest. At some point, i was thinking that i have messed up and i will exit the park in a place far away from where i park my car. Fortunately, my orientation skills did not let me down. Parking - I used parking lots near Slivnitsa blvd. Food - honestly, I did not see the restaurants of fast food canteens, maybe spring and summer there will be some options, in the winter there are limited, if any. Kids - I saw several kids' playgrounds and think they are adequate and safe. Bicycles - Yes, you can try, but i went to places where only very skilled riders with special bikes can pass some very difficult terrains. What I did not like - there is a railway nearby. No fence is installed to make sure no one can approach the railway. Do i recommend - yes. It's worth going there and exploring.

След ремонта парка изглежда много добре, има нови детски площадки, алеи, пейки и дори обособено място до бензиностанцията на бул. Сливница за паркинг.

It has an interesting new kids playground full of all the equipment a kid would normally desire. The only thing missing perhaps is a merry-go-round. But I don't believe any of the kids there are noticing something as insignificant as this. All in all, the West park upgrades are a welcomed change from it used to be. Definitely a step in the right direction for the Lyulin community. The park used to be a major thorn in the eye, as Lyulin the biggest housing community in Sofia, and it was severely lacking in the outdoor department. But things have definitely improved with the upgraded West park.

West Park is the largest park on the territory of Sofia, covering an are of 4.17km². It rests between the Zapaden Park, Lyulin, Zaharna fabrika and Krasna polyana districts.

The West Park is a great place for rest and excersice. It has large rockeries that look like they have been taken from a fairytale, beautiful gazebos, deckchairs scattered along thegrassy open spaces, playgrounds and splendid shade. Something that visitors should have in mind is that there are no lightsin the park, making night strolls unpleasant. This is closer to the end of the park near Zaharna fabrika district. On the other end of the park, which is near Lyulin 5 district, one feels as in a deep forest – the Suhodolska river flows beside you and there’s barely any noise from the...
