Neolithic Dwellings Museum — Attraction in Stara Zagora

These are the best preserved Neolithic ruins in Europe, dating back to the 6th millennium BCE (8000 years)! Honestly, if you don’t understand what you are seeing, and cannot be bothered to learn - please don’t leave a review!

It’s really a shame this site does not get as many visitors as better known sites - not only are the ruins impressive, but the artifacts in the small museum are some of the best I’ve seen anywhere. And to have been built in 1979, the surrounding purpose built structure blends with the ruins beautifully, never overwhelming the main attraction - but make sure you check out the craftsmanship in the doors.

The museum also sells amazing Neolithic souvenirs, they’ve commissioned an artist to create them along with a certificate of authenticity. The staff are clearly passionate about their museum and will be happy to share their knowledge. This should be a “must see” for visitors to Stara Zagora, it would be great if there were more signage around the city.

Horrible little place! It costs 5 leva to see what is basically a mound of dirt and a room of pottery and some small figurines with no explanation other than Bulgarian. Photos are not allowed, though I managed to sneak one of the mound of dirt and if you want to actually understand anything what you see you need to pay an extra 2 leva for a small booklet in English. Add to that the fact that this so called musuen is 2 kilometers from the center in an area full of gypsies and some sad communist buildings which make the experience even worse. Този музей не е в центъра на града и е малко трудно намираем. Причината за това обаче заслужава похвала: след като са били открити, въпросните две неолитни жилища, разположени в една постройка, НЕ са били местени, а музеят е изграден на мястото на откриването им. Разбира се, ако ползвате навигацията на телефона си, с малко по-продължителна разходка, ще стигнете спокойно.

Непосветеният в тайните на живота от новокаменната епоха, трудно ще види нещо особено в остатъците от двуфамилната неолитна къща, макар и тези останки да са най-добре запазените и с най-много инвентар в сравнение с други подобни находки в цяла Европа. За да се разбере по-добре какво се вижда, е уместно да се чуе беседата на уредничката – възрастна, опитна и интелигентна дама, която не си пести труда и за няколко минути стегнато, ясно и разбираемо Ви показва кое какво е.

Но, без проблеми не може ! Тази същата интелигентна и образована жена, бди като орлица, да не би някой да направи забранена снимка, щото снимките тук са забранени, та се наложи да карам жена ми да избързва и да й отвлича вниманието, а аз умишлено изоставах, за да мога да щракна някой кадър.

Музеят има и още едно подземно ниво, в което са изложени останки на различни предмети от онези древни времена. Те биха могли да бъдат и в историческия музей, но според мен са тук, за да изглежда този музей с малко повече експонати.
