Glozhene Monastery, perched atop a cliff in the Balkan Mountains, offers a tranquil escape with breathtaking views. Originally built in the 13th century to house an icon of St. George, which legend says miraculously arrived from Georgia, the monastery is steeped in history and spirituality. It's also notable for its connection to Bulgaria's national hero, Vasil Levski, who found refuge here during his efforts to liberate Bulgaria from Ottoman rule. The monastery features beautiful architecture and well-preserved frescoes, providing a serene atmosphere ideal for reflection. This historic spot is perfect for those interested in Bulgaria’s rich past or anyone seeking a peaceful retreat amid stunning natural scenery.

Now this review looks at the place from two perspectives - purely visual and purely experience :
- from a visual perspective the place is amazing. It’s located at a hill top where you witness a breathtaking view of the region. The complex itself is also very impressive. It’s definitely recommend to be checked out.
- from an experience point of view this was extremely disappointing. Awful road to the place. You pay during every step you take (parking lot, WC, entrance of a so called museum, etc.). There is absolutely nobody to show you around nor to tell you the story of the place. There is a restaurant but service, seating and food a far from good.
If you are in the region - go and check it out, but don’t step out of your way too much for it if you are further away.

A unique monestary with breathtaking views. Small but cute. This place has historical significance, as it is where one of the main national heroes during the Ottoman occupation was living and hiding - Vasil Levski.
Unfortunately, the road to the monastery is not good. And the state of the building needs attention. If you have seen the main attractions of Bulgaria, like the Rila lakes, Rila Monastery, Bachkovsl Monastery, this is a good second destination. One bonus is that in the vicinity is the cave Sayeva Dupka.

The Glozhene monastery is very interesting and beautiful. It is placed on a magnificent place on a rock hill above the village. The road is narrow and with bad asphalt but it is a must see if you are in this region.
There is a room that Vassil Levski used to hide and a tunnel leading to a cave nearby so he can escape. There is a little church inside that is very beautiful.
The parking is 3bgn per car and there is no entrance fee for the monastery. During weekdays there is no parking fee.

One hour from the Monastery is one of the most preserved caves i know i Bulgaria (together with Prohodna, not so far from here and to combine with Zlatna Palega). Here you feel the presence of nature or call it Bog or God even in discrepance with worldly desires. Very extraordinary, but i was scratched a lot on my legs and arms running throung wrong paths in the beginning, but there is an easier way forbidden for cars and only for pedestrians. +je

Very beautiful place. Definitely recommended to visit on a weekend. The entrance is Free, but you need to pay for parking - 1 leva for a bike and horse (?), 2 leva for a standard car, 3 for mini bus, and so on. Mind that the road there is very steep and narrow. Be prepared to reverse if there's a car coming up. Also, I think the most beautiful view that you can photograph is from the window in the mini museum. Picture attached :)
