The Sofitel Hotel complex is yet another example of the excellent architecture that exists in the Ivory Coast. Designed by Belgian architect Pierre Fakhoury, the hotel is comprised of two two towers, one built in the early 60s and the other in the late 60s. The two buildings are connected by a gallery that also leads to the conference center; at the far end, you will find the casino and a small conference/meeting room which resemble two circular paillotes. The complex has five restaurants, three which are located in the main tower area: the Le Toile, with a 180° view of Abidjan and the lagoon on the 14th floor of the tower is the more luxious one; another which overlooks the swimming pool and has a very tropical atmosphere; and a French brasserie with a very contemporary décor in dark wood, black and gold details. There is yet another restaurant near the secondary lobby, with many beautiful details that are reminiscent of African cultures (I do not know if specifically Ivorian), and another in the Casino building. The hotel also has a couple of bars, one in the main lobby and another one by the swimming pool. The two lobbies are beautiful but very different from one another; one is more contemporary and sophisticated, and the second one, more run-down, with a '70s atmosphere, with leather sofas and mirrors on the walls. A pool winds organically along the several buildings, allowing temperatures to cools down. The garden area, where the above mentioned swimming pool is located, as well as a regular swimming pool, is dotted with several trees and bushes and has a giant chess game that guests can play with. Off the hotel's main lobby, to one side one can find a SPA, and a few shops and a cinema to the other. Staff is very attentive and friendly. I was a guest at the hotel, but did not stay in one of the rooms. Sofitel definitely has all the perks of a five star hotel and hopefully it will continue to demonstrate to the world how premium quality can be attained anywhere.
I was approached by a young man (also a guest, as he and his friends were using the hotel pool towels) in the garden area who insistently offerered his "services" in spite of my rejection and then refusal to speak to him. Staff in the area seemed to know what was going on and did not intervene. This was an upsetting experience and, unfortunately, stained my overall opinion, reason why I will only give the...
Read moreIf there was a - 1 rate I would give that as the rating. We have just come back from a 7 day stay at the hotel with our staff team as we were having a conference there.
It was the worst experience in our 14 years of organizing conferences across the Continent.
Almost our entire team and guests got food poisoning more than once at the hotel.
The unprofessionalism was so high our cock tail event could not happen because the drinks has not been brought almost an hour since the start of what should have been the cock tail.
The rooms supplies were not been refilled unless you ask , e.g you will find your half drunk water simply put back on the table. I had to ask for towels more than once and so did my colleagues even soaps! Even if a guest is staying a week they are entitiled to fresh supplies each day no ?
The tea break snacks were more like for 70 people instead of the 150 pax we had paid for ! We sent pics of evidence.
6: The meeting room had a stench and we had to intervene to get air conditioning to clear the stench.
The wifi kept dropping and we had to keep changing for our delegates different access points and passwords!
The hotel is also not disability friendly for instance the toilets in one of the meeting rooms on the 22nd floor are one floor higher than the meeting room only accessible through a freight of stairs !
We also could not get access to movable ramp to allow a delegate who was on a wheelchair access the stage/podium to make his presentation!
It was a horrible experience especially for a hotel that is not cheap ! ! Horrible standards!
Ms..Laurna though was amazing and tried so much to sort things but it was on the background of a totally...
Read moreOn my first night at Sofitel in April 2022, between 1.30 am to 2.30 am someone tried severally within an hour to enter my room at night and my only luck was that I locked the door behind. I reported this incident to the hotel and it was quickly dismissed without any proper investigation. I was only told it was drunk client who lost his way and tried entering my room and that the guest has already checked out. This did not make sense to me because when I peeped through the pin hole of the door, the person I saw did not look drunk and looking for his room but was focused on gaining access to my room with a card but for the inside. With this doubt in my mind, I requested to look at the CCTV footage of the incident just to confirm the drunk story I was told but the hotel refused citing privacy breaches. They sent to my room food and a bottle of wine to apologize as if my safety can be equated to food or wine. I tried to talk to everyone possible including two managers (Mr. Morel Koffi and one other Lady Manager) but they all did not do anything about it. Anytime I asked to speak to the hotel manager, I was told he is not at post. I spent an awful lot of time of my busy schedule (about 3 hours in all) to try and engage the team and find a solution. They kept on playing games with me until I checked out after 6 nights. This is a hotel I use frequently (about 5 times a year) and my only reason was to be sure of my safety so the next time I return I will have the peace of mind to go about my business but Sofitel let me down big time and I have no other option than to leave...
