It was a very fun hour(ish) at the waterfalls of Man. There are a few more besides the main one, but we decided to just visit the main site due to time.
Getting there: French Google Maps did us dirty and had us cutting through residential streets and going down the wrong one way roads. Stay on main roads to get there until you get to the road it is on.
The road it’s on: lord Jesus. After and during rainy season, the road is VERY torn up. You need 4 wheel drive or good clearance- or a taxi driver willing to go up the 300 km hill. Very very bumpy. This could be a HUGE tourism draw if better maintained by the national government.
Do you need a guide? If you’re just going to the main site, no. But they can tell you some interesting things. But it’s not necessary.
Cost: 500cfa for nationals, 1000 for internationals.
It’s a walk to the entrance from the parking lot, and then 72 somewhat steep and sometimes slippery steps down.
It’s beautiful and I highly recommend visiting!
Last thing: pay attention for monkeys! Vendors have bananas you can buy to feed the monkeys and even fresh cocoa (when in season) that...
Read moreA really nice surprise not far from the city of dust ...giant granite roks, flourishing vegetation, crystal clear water falling into a small pool (which expands largely during the rainy season). You can climb up on the slidy rocks, step into the shallow pool (do not dream about swimming). There are the remainings of a swing bridge in the valley, and lots of chairs, tables and some kiosks, talking about once grandiose plans of tourism development. The thrill of the experience is quite ruined by local human factors ... A gang of young males are circling around the entrance steps, collecting money for nothing in a quite aggressive way. They do not look a bit official, nor they can prove that they have authorization for collecting money. Even the amount is arbitrary, ranging from 500 to 1000 cfrs. Do not let yourself blackmailed, offer the official 200 cfr, and do not go...
Read moreLes cascades de Man / Waterfalls of Man are beautiful, to get there get a taxi to the cascades junction (200F) and then walk up the dirt path or get a taxi/moto to take you all the way up. It's only a 15min walk and not very hard. Entry fee is 500F/person and then you can climb down the stairs to the falls, unfortunately it's not as pretty as I'm sure it once was since concrete walkways have been added but I still had a great time ! Around that area you can get information from locals on how to get guides to visit other places such as the Dent du Man mountain, pont des lianes...
