Zoo d'Abidjan :

✅ Points positifs

Abidjan Zoo:

✅ Positive Points

Appreciable Animal Diversity It houses a variety of species such as lions, crocodiles, chimpanzees, hyenas, giant tortoises, snakes, etc., which is impressive for a West African zoo.

Green Setting The environment is relatively calm, shaded, and natural, making it a pleasant family outing, especially on weekends.

Accessibility Located in Cocody, the zoo is fairly easy to reach by car or taxi from Abidjan's major cities.

Affordable Fees The admission fees are relatively low, making the place accessible even to low-income families.

Commitment of Some Keepers Some staff members demonstrate a real passion and effort to care for the animals despite limited resources.

⚠️ Flaws and Areas for Improvement:

Outdated or Undersized Enclosures Some animal areas are clearly too small or unsuitable, which can cause disappointment among visitors concerned about animal welfare.

Lack of General Maintenance Some areas of the park are poorly maintained: dirty enclosures, cracked walls, and sometimes persistent unpleasant odors.

Lack of Interactivity and Education Few explanatory signs, no interactive trails, or modern educational activities for children or curious tourists.

Wildlife Reduced Compared to Expectations Many visitors are disappointed not to see certain species advertised or hoped for. Some animals are absent or barely visible.

Virtually Nonexistent Food and Services Few or no clean and welcoming food outlets inside the zoo, which limits the overall experience. A decent restaurant overall. The food was really good, I admit. But the hygiene was a major drawback: flies everywhere and garbage piled up right behind the kitchen... something that needs urgent attention.

🎯 In summary:

The Abidjan Zoo has undeniable potential for education and family entertainment, but still...

The Zoo is a must visit place. Easily accessible and reachable via public transportation: around Abobo (The area is called Zoo 🤗)it’s really nice and in a small portion of forest. Quite a lot animals. It’s not as bad as it seems but it could really be better with tour guides, souvenirs and much more. They have to put a lot more information boards. My kids kept on asking about the animals and their age. Had to guess most of it. A lot of Lions. I saw a huge one really agitated back in a cell, don’t know why. Would have love to see him in the green grass. The Leopard is really nice and clean but was in a corner and the hyenas were missing in action. The snakes also don’t really move much too, but you can count on the monkeys and raccoons for that. The elephant was really friendly and happy to see us. The alligators and crocodile are usually on “No movement” mode. You walk through the Zoo on your own and must make sure you don’t miss any animal; you can stay as long as you want. A lot benches available although some are not in good shape. But it’s really...

Small zoo, but with some species I had never seen before, such as the celphalophe a bande dorsal noir, the genette, the civetteand the grue couronnée. There are many, many crocodiles, both in a cage/lake, as well as in several other places in the zoo, some in nurseries, others separated for some reason (maybe breeding). Some of the animals were alone, like the elephant and the ostrich, others had only one or two companions. There was a very strong urine smell in the ones area of the leopard cage. The zoo could do with some maintenance, but I can imagine that in this climate it must be very difficult to keep things very pruned. At the end of the zoo there are a couple of places to grab a bite to eat (there's another one by the entrance), a mini fairground, an arcade and a quite a few things to make kids and grownups quite happy. All labeling...
