The house is extremely old, yet magnificent, and it's a real chance to be able to visit such a beautiful architecture, filled with ancient artefacts.
The unpleasant part was the way we were absolutely rushed through a mechanical 7 minutes top visit (with absolutely no other visitor around), and given a presentation uttered robot like, emotionless. We weren't authorised to take photos while the woman was talking, and ordered to do so after she would be done. I'm not sure we saw the whole house, as there are pics of an ancient bed in the previous reviews, that never appeared while visiting. I bought a small Khmer scarf in the shop section for my son, so maybe that's why we weren't asked the 2 dollars previous reviews mention as a "mandatory fee".
Overall and even though the visit could be rushed, I would still recommend it for the sake of this well preserved traditional rich Khmer house. But how wonderful it would be to feel that the guide was actually pleased to share...
Read moreThis “free” tour consisted of being insulted for 20 minutes, told I don’t know anything, my country taught us lies etc. mixed with some information about the house and family. The tour guide/owner of the house proceded to insult United States, Europe, Australia and and every Asian county except Mongolia. The entire experience was unpleasant and ended with you being pretty much told to buy something and as you go to leave he says wait you need to pay the mandatory donation admission fee and he gives you a donation slip to write down personal information about yourself. I paid the “mandatory” donation and when I wouldn’t put my personal info in his book he became quite agitated where I felt nervous. It's recommended to book your visit first for arrangement purpose due to old house safety visit and more indepth guidance from the care takers. They offers English, French tour or might be more. While visiting there, you can also help buy souvenirs from different humanitarian NGOs. There's certain rules you have to follow as well.
