Coconut Island, Kampot, Cambodia – A Hidden Gem with a Rough Path
My visit to Coconut Island in Kampot, Cambodia was quite an adventure! Getting there wasn’t the easiest—the last 2 to 3 kilometers were on a very rough dirt track, and I would strongly advise against attempting the journey if it’s raining. The road conditions can become treacherous.
However, once I arrived, the scenery was absolutely worth the effort. The island offers a peaceful, untouched feel, with only about seven locals around when I visited. I also spotted two foreigners sunbathing under the blazing sun, enjoying the island’s quiet charm.
I stayed for about 30 minutes, soaking in the natural beauty and the tranquil surroundings. It’s a great spot for a short excursion, but make sure to bring water, sunscreen, and a good vehicle suited for rough terrain. If you love off-the-beaten-path destinations, Coconut Island is worth a visit!

There’s a nice concrete pad with a roof covering it and I don’t know if that was an old artillery location or if it is just a cool picnic spot. Either way, I definitely enjoyed every single time I went out here, especially when I took a nice girl with me. The beach itself is not really maintained, but it’s very clean typically, and there is also a pebble bed on the shores with plenty of seashells for those out there who enjoy...

The beach itself is reminiscent of a land fill, rocks, a few tyres, lots of plastic waste and litter. The water looked dirty close to the beach, not at all inviting. Getting to the beach is a challenge, what was supposed to be a 30 minute ride took almost double, as the track is scattered with rocks and potholes, a most uncomfortable journey, the river beaches are probably a better option and a lot...
