Kep Beach – A Peaceful Escape in Cambodia
Kep Beach, located in southern Cambodia, is a quiet and peaceful coastal destination ideal for travelers seeking relaxation. Also known as the “capital of blue crabs,” Kep is famous for its fresh seafood, especially crab dishes that are both delicious and reasonably priced. The beach itself is clean, with calm waters and soft sand, perfect for swimming or simply enjoying the sun.
During the day, visitors can take part in various beachside activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, or exploring nearby islands by boat. There are also local restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy a drink while taking in beautiful ocean views.
Despite its charm, Kep remains quite undeveloped. Public facilities and infrastructure are still limited, and after sunset, the town becomes very quiet, with few options for nightlife or evening entertainment.
Kep Beach is best suited for travelers who prefer peaceful natural settings, authentic local food, and a slower pace of life. It’s an excellent weekend escape from busy cities or a relaxing stop on a broader trip through southern Cambodia.
If you’re looking for a calm retreat and some of the best crab dishes in Southeast Asia, Kep is definitely...
Read moreWe have 4 small kids and needed a place to have unstructured fun. We found it at Kep beach! The beach itself is quite clean considering the rest of the country. There are tent canopies set up along the beach that you can rent for $5 all day, which is a great deal! There is no shade other than the rented tents along the sandy beach. There are also several port-o-potties (outside toilets) you can use for about $0.75. There is a large inflatable structure kids can play on for $1.25 as well as other beach toys for rent. The water is about 3 to 4 feet deep and extends out into the ocean for about 50 yards. The water is a bit murky with some trash and debris, but again, considering the state of the country, it is quite clean. It is very kid friendly! There are several delicious small restaurants across the street, namely Burger Works and Smoothie Shop, aka Burger VS Smoothie -...
Read moreThe water was good enough for a feet dip, but I wouldn’t recommend taking a swim. The beach was littered with trash, with the majority of them thrown straight into the water and left there to decay. If you stroll along the pavement, greeting you will be countless groups of people sitting around on rattan floor mats, eating seafood of questionable origins and drinking beer by the case. Where do their trash often end up? You guessed it, right on the sand, just waiting for the waves to take them out to the open waters. Quite an interesting sight, to be honest. A further walk will take you to a small set of stairs which leads straight to the sewer’s opening, where, you guessed it again, sewage are dumped right into the sea. I would call it seawage, but ocean pollution is never a joke. Having considered all of this, would you still want to...
