Stayed for 3 nights. beautiful clean beach (which is rare in cambodia), super chilled, bungalow right next to the sea. We stayed in bungalow 1, if you want a bit more privacy request to not stay in 1 & 2 and most of the day visitors like to sit in front of the first two bungalows. Food was lovely, although typically like the rest of Asia it all comes out at different times which is really annoying when you have very young children as they always seem to bring the adults food first and leave the kids waiting for another 10 minutes, which is kid world is a long time. When challenging this and asking if the kids food is coming I was met with the response of ‘this is the way it is here’ which came from a backpacker volunteer. Which I didn’t really appreciate as most of the front of staff were European and all the guests were European, so why does it have to be like that? What she should have said was, ‘sorry about the wait, let me go check on the rest of your order’.
Another note about the backpacker volunteers, perhaps the owners could accept more friendly/ personable persons as a couple of them (one small brunette, who was working along side her boyfriend in particular) was so miserable, never greeted the guests, would just stand behind the bar staring into space, and when approached wouldn’t even make eye contact or smile she would just pick up her pad ready to take the order.
The Irish manager and the local family/ owners was lovely and friendly but the backpacker workers all need a lesson in people/...
Read moreFrom the north part of Saracen Beach, there's a path next to Sara resort that isn't marked on Google Maps. Then it's a walk on concrete, red dirt track, loose stones and rubble up and down a hill, then a jungle path which can be muddy. You come out at the Lazy Beach Hotel. From Sara to Lazy took 30mins. Definitely wear shoes.
The best snorkeling is at the rocks to the north of the beach, which is another 10min walk along the beach.
The snorkeling is ok - reef is nice, small groups of the usual tropical fish, but it's close to rocks and the visibility if there's any waves is poor.
The north part of the beach is not cared for and full of mounds of trash.
Saracen Beach is a much nicer beach, less waves, more gradual steep. The snorkeling or beach is not worth the walk over.
If you are going to cross over, go purely for the sunset. Didn't go to sunset beach so not sure if...
Read moreOur favorite beach resort in the world. And, as Australians, blessed with amazing beaches and who have travelled the world. that is saying something. We rarely go back to places we have been before but we keep coming back to Lazy Beach.
This was our fifth visit since 2009 and it was our longest stay (3 weeks). It was refreshing to see that the place is still as lovely as ever. Tropical beach holidays, the way they used to be. Most people go to Saracen Bay on the east side of the island but it has become crowded, noisy, and dirty.
By contrast, at Lazy Beach Cambodia, there are only 20 timber & thatch bungalows and one thatched roof beach bar/restaurant on 600m of pristine private beach. The food is delicious and the Khmer/UK owners are all lovely.
We will be back many times. And for...
