Hello and welcome in Leo planetary journey in Asia, Siem Reap, Angkor Wat, especially in front of Angkor Thom on the left site Phnom Bakheng. I drove by bycicle from the citiy center the directly way after the Check, I bought a 7 day ticket now valid for 10 days and arrive after 40 minutes the only temple in this area build like a pyramid. There are two ways going along on the right or left site 20 minutes before I arrived the entrance. There are at present a lot of workes what slightly disturbing the spirit of silence and enjoy in calmness the old pyramid. Anyway on the way and around the pyramid some fine viewpoints and to climb via stairways on the top is a amazing feeling with a wide view around the whole Angkor Wat area 🙂 I took the other way back to the ground and red the informative description about the history and the process of conservation. Enjoy the view and the feeling of the be a king of the sky 😌 All the best and highly recommended Leo 😊

One of famous sunset point in Siem Reap. Phnom Bakheng built on the top of the hill, so you can enjoy the sunset from above. We have to climb up the hill about 15 minutes from parking area to go there. It was easy hike, with wide path and no much slope. Don’t forget to bring your drinking water in case you feel thirsty. For safety reason, only 300 visitors is allowed to climb up the temple at any one time. So it will be long queue of tourists waiting to go up the temple during sunset time. I go there after buy Angkor tiket for next day that open at 16.30 pm, so its actually little late to go to Phnom Bakheng temple because it was a lot of tourists queuing to watch the sun as it sets over the horizon. Luckily as the last queuing I still can go up to the temple. The scenary from the Phnom Bakheng is so beautifull. Its worth to climb and queuing. Tips for you to avoid the crowds: try to go to Phnom Bakheng for sunrise view and to Angkor Wat to sunset view.

This is the sunset point. The sunset is magnificent here. On less cloudy days, it will be a magnificent sunset. The view is clear because there are no tall buildings in this area. This is also a viewpoint for Angkor Wat temple. Considerations 1. Please wear treking shoes or clogs because the viewpoint is a flat trek of 20 something minutes. 2. Please wear full clothes because it is a temple. Optionally you will need to buy or rent a scarf. 3. Please carry cold water and umbrella or hat. The temple top is an open area with minimal shady areas. It gets really hot. 4. Try to reach by 4:30. The photo op guys capture the best spots though its hot and sunny. They use umbrellas to provide shade. Please like the comment if it helps. Thanks

Phnom Bakheng is a fantastic mountain temple to visit at any time of day. The sunset has been a popular tourist attraction for many years so it is very crowded at that time. The morning or day time is much more enjoyable to me, as I have often found myself to be the only visitor at the top. The walk up the mountain in the day time is an experience in itself as you challenge your body and your mind to keep pushing forward in the heat. There are numerous ancient rest stops (and view points) though on the way, that will help you make your journey less strenuous. The restoration projects are also quite astounding and make me wonder how this temple structure was built without modern technology and construction methods.
