A glacial lake with unusual natural sculptures captured within its frozen surface during winter.

Lake Abraham is an artificial lake created by the damming of the North Saskatchewan River in northern Alberta, Canada, in 1972. It stretches 20 miles (32 km), oriented north to south along the river valley, and is 2 miles (3.3 km) across at its widest.

What lies beneath. For much of the year, Lake Abraham displays the turquoise waters seen in most glacial lakes of the Canadian Rockies. However, during winter, beneath its clear, icy surface, bizarre frozen stacks of cotton-wool-like bubbles appear. These amazing formations actually contain highly flammable methane gas produced as bacteria at the bottom of the lake decompose dead organic material. In summer, the methane simply rises to the surface and escapes, but in winter the gas is trapped—and held on dazzling display—until the...

Always a go to place for photography and hiking the nearby trails.Although it is man-made due to a dam which helps control water drainage and flow from the Rockies it still is beautiful and turns into the infamous ice bubble lake that people from all over have come to photograph, the lake will not freeze until about January so you have time to plan a trip and also hope that no snow fell because then the ice could potentially be covered with snow and you may not get effect you are looking for, this is for anyone going with intentions of photos only also sunrise there is best time to take pictures arrive hour before sunrise just be careful and bring crampons it's a hit or miss when you go but always worth going there it it amazing!!P.S. crazy windy...

Stunning Summer Destination

Abraham Lake in the summer is nothing short of breathtaking. The vibrant turquoise waters, framed by majestic mountains, create a picture-perfect scene that feels almost surreal.

Every angle offers a new and spectacular view. • Outdoor Activities: From kayaking and paddleboarding to hiking along the shore, there’s no shortage of activities to enjoy. The clear waters are perfect for a refreshing dip on a hot day. • Peaceful Atmosphere: Despite being a popular spot, the area remains calm and peaceful. It’s an ideal place for a relaxing picnic or simply unwinding...

It's a friend's bucket list to see this place as often referred to as ”ice bubbles or frozen bubbles." Seeing the pictures of those who've seen it made me interested to see it with my own eyes. And since it's a long drive (which I love to do) we went. Arriving there, we realized we were too early to see the frozen bubbles. Lol. But, it was a great trip and this HUGE Man-made Lake is peacefully amazing. If ever you've decided to visit this place don't forget to drop by Crescent Falls which is around 27 min drive. And on your way to Crescent Falls, there were unpinned sites that’s great for picture taking. Then if you're lucky enough you'll see some Bighorn sheep on the road.

Canada is a very large and beautiful country it’s practically made for nature lovers. If you have the time, the best way to see this country is to travel from coast to coast in a rental camper. If time isn’t on your side, consider making your way to Alberta. This Provence is full of epic landscapes and some of the most incredible natural discoveries. One such discovery is the frozen methane bubbles that become trapped underneath Lake Abraham. As the lake freezes over for winter, the bubbles are trapped underneath. And best of all: you can skate on the beautiful lake!
