We were driving along the highway when we saw the sign for this railway museum and had to go see it. This museum did not disappoint. Many museums have steam trains, but this one has an early ALCO diesel electric engine. Enjoyed the trail ride with the family and then to see the displays of cabooses, snow plow, some tractors and Alberta what pool grain elevator. The staff were friendly and helpful as we did not know what to expect when we arrived, but we did arrive just prior to the Jay train ride for the day. They helped us to get tickets and then to board the train. After the ride they have us a tour of some of the other real cars that were not being used and are under restoration currently. While we were looking at the other static displays, including an old one room schoolhouse, the staff came and talked to us about them as well, including their history and done stories to go along with them. They spent quite a bit of time with us and our kids and were extremely helpful. We have been to many railway museums and try to stop at all that we can. This one, although a bit out of the way and although I had not heard of it, was a great experience too. I would highly recommend stopping here if you...
Read moreThe two staff members we met were very rude to us. We showed up at 2:40, 10 minutes after the last train was supposed to leave and Doreen was so mad about us asking if they could still give us a ride. We were the only people there, so the 2:30 train didn't even run. You'd think that they would be thrilled to have paying customers even if we were 10 minutes late, as opposed to no customers. Also, the train conductor yelled at us for going in an apparently off limits area of the train, said it was against the rules. We never did find anywhere that these rules were posted. How are we to know the rules that aren't written anywhere? We all wished we hadn't gone and wasted all that much money on touring a place with such grumpy staff. If they had been nice, it would've been...
Read moreThe staff are great. The times that we have been they have gone out of their way to welcome us. My boys (4&2) love it here. Bill started building the railway and station for his wife and it just blossomed. Sure the place isn't as polished as a provincial museum but this is the labour of one man and some good ol' prairie neighborly help.
Bring a picnic, take a train ride, sit in the corner with a dunce cap in an old schoolhouse, look inside an old grain elevator, and climb aboard a caboose and other train cars. Talk with Bill or Doreen, they are very friendly and have much to tell.
Many people are in and out quickly but we make a day of it when we go. Take your time, explore, and...
