Athabasca Falls Athabasca Falls is located at the intersection of Highway 93 and Highway 93A, about 30 minutes from the town, and the parking lot is very close to the attraction, so you don't need to walk for a long time. From the information point of view, although it is not the highest waterfall in the Rocky Mountains, the intersection of large and small rivers makes it the most powerful and spectacular waterfall. There is a path around the waterfall, which can be viewed from different angles. The tour time is about 1 hour. Athabasca Falls is located in Jasper National Park in Canada. It is a waterfall formed in the upper reaches of the Athabasca River. It is said to be the most thrilling in the Rocky Mountains Waterfall. The meltwater of the Columbia Ice Sheet merged into the endlessly turbulent Athabasca River. This pure and clear glacier flows from south to north to the Arctic Ocean to the vicinity of Jasper. The wide river gradually shrinks and follows the curve of the dense rocky forest. The gorge flowed all the way, and suddenly fell to a cliff of 20 to 30 meters, forming the galloping Athabasca Falls. Athabasca Falls is not only famous for its 23 - meter height and rushing water, but also because the waterfall water carries sand and stones, and the pothole formed by impacting the two shores with great force is amazing. This glacial water scoured these huge rocks year after year and day after day. After thousands of years of " cutting ", the riverbed of this huge rock was finally washed out of a 25 - meter - deep gorge, highlighting Athabasca. Waterfall is the beauty of the force that moves forward courageously and torrentially. Although Athabasca Falls is not as shocking as Niagara Falls, its water volume is abundant and the scene is extremely spectacular. In summer, you can have picnics here, and the lower reaches of the waterfall is a paradise for many...
Read moreAthabasca Falls is a gorgeous series of waterfalls (along with a canyon to explore). It is located approximately 30 minutes south of the town of Jasper along the scenic Icefields Parkway. It is a place definitely worth stopping and exploring.
There were a network of paved pathways leading to various areas overlooking the waterfalls and viewpoints of the deep and narrow canyon. Athabasca Falls was powerful and gorgeous waterfall with a stunning backdrop of forests, mountains and the river flowing through as huge volumes of water rushed down into the canyon. There were a few lookout points offering different views of the falls along the trails. I visited on a sunny afternoon and the area was quite crowded with some of the lookout areas being very small, so I had to wait my turn in order to get up front and take photos. The pathways were interesting to explore and one of them led through a narrow section between two walls of the canyon with stairs carved into the rocks. There were some great vantage points overlooking the river and the canyon to see where the water had eroded the rock to create caves and unique rock formations over many years.
Athabasca Falls was a wonderful area to discover, admire the natural beauty and take plenty of photos. The parking lot was large and could accommodate quite a few vehicles. It would probably be best to visit in the morning during the summer season before the crowds of people show up. If you’re driving the Icefields Parkway,...
Read moreYou can't get much better than Jasper National park there are way too many things to list in ways of keeping busy out here even driving through here is amazing and for first time drivers through this area it's hard to keep your eyes on the road there is so much beauty surrounding you,Athabasca falls is just one of many places to visit and explore.I do a ton on solo hiking out in the Rockies and it would take a lifetime to hit all the trails around here. There are plenty of rest areas and lookout pull offs to park and admire the views.I highly recommend that no matter where you go keep your tank topped up there is VERY FEW places to get gas so if you drive in say from highway 16 West into Jasper fill up in Hinton and fill up again in Jasper town if going south onto the 93 Icefields parkway, from Jasper to Lake Louise there is only one gas station I'm pretty sure,it would be beautiful stuck out there but not if you aren't prepared. If you are new to this area And Canada then I recommend hitting up North Face pizza in Jasper for a poutine with curds and gravy and pizza, trust me it's the best place for it!I also suggest bringing fully charged camera and empty memory card because photo opportunities are every ten...
