We enjoyed our day very much on Johnston canyon! The upper falls is the second stop since we saw there was a long queue for the lower falls. We thought how about we went on up and on the way to go down we hopefully will see no or a shorter queue. Fun fact is we can see the upper falls very clearly and there is no queue (because the trail made it as a lookout point but no need to go in the cave or tunnel as the lower falls) Here you can have photos of the head and I’d love to recommend everyone who likes waterfall - don’t skip the upper falls to see more after you reached the lower falls. the voice of the nature - waterfall This upper falls is easy to access. If possible you can try to avoid the weekend/ peak season. We arrived the carpark in the morning. Parking 1 was already full and we went to the opposite for parking 2. Glad that we found our spot and there were quite some available number of parking if you arrive after 10am… Before your hike you can do some warm up and some unisex washrooms if you need to use them. There are many signs that make sure you stay...

The sights of upper and lower falls themselves are super beautiful and totally worth the hike, but the place is bombarded with tourists. It’s highly disappointing that one needs to queue only to actually see the view from the viewpoint (in the busiest hours probably like 20-30mins per viewpoint..), even if you do not want to take a photo of yourself in front of it. This waiting time is on top of the hiking time of c. 1.5h (round trip) to upper falls. Also many aggressive people in the queue if one would try to just go see the view for a short second or take that one landscape photo and continue.

Parks Canada should try to expand the viewpoint areas, so the crowds would move a bit faster and one wouldn’t have to spend nearly 1h just for queueing to see the viewpoints. Silverton Falls is a great alternative with...

We visited the Upper Falls on Canada Day, and it was an incredible experience. Despite the crowds, there was ample parking available in the second parking lot. The hike to the Lower Falls was short and scenic, taking about an hour along a beautiful, paved trail that runs alongside the river.

From the Lower Falls, it’s an additional 1.5 kilometers to reach the Upper Falls. The hike between the two falls is equally picturesque and not very challenging in terms of elevation. When you reach the Upper Falls, you can see a stunning view from below and get quite close to the water, making it a very immersive experience.

I highly recommend that if you’re already at the Lower Falls, you make the trek up to the Upper Falls. It’s a fantastic extension to an already amazing hike, offering a perfect mix of forest and...

Absolutely amazing and something I’ve never seen before! The pictures don’t do it justice. Round trip took us 2.5 hours, but we stopped a lot to take pictures along the way. There are plenty of pictures and signs to guide you along the way, so you won’t get lost, and the trail is very obvious. The hike to the Upper Falls was definitely moderate with lots of ups and downs, stairs, and flat stretches of walkways. We had snow boots on, and still slipped a couple times. So take your time on the steep parts, avoid the slippery black rocks, and stick to where the snow is thicker. Snow cleats aren’t necessary, but are nice to have if you can. If you’re scared of heights, this is not the trail for you.
