Lower Bertha Falls — Attraction in Alberta

Bertha Falls is a pretty waterfall in Waterton that can be accessed by an easy and scenic hike from town.

The trail to the Lower Bertha Falls begins on Evergreen Street in the town of Waterton, just past Cameron Falls. It is the same trail that ultimately leads to Bertha Lake.

The relatively short hike to the waterfalls is a popular one and the trail is well-maintained and has some gorgeous views of the surrounding landscapes along the way. The hike is fairly easy with some moderately steep sections, but nothing too difficult at all. The trail passes through mostly forests but opens up frequently to provide lovely views of the scenery.

The waterfalls cascade over some slanted rock ledges and they are very beautiful and unique! There is a wooden footbridge that crosses a creek along the trail where you can get views of the waterfalls. Beside the footbridge, there is a well beaten narrow path off the main trail which leads up a small hill through the trees to a ledge along the creek where you can get even better views of the falls while standing directly in front of them.

If you visit the falls earlier in the morning, you will probably have the entire place to yourself. My mother and I were alone there and the atmosphere was so peaceful and pleasant.

Once you reach the falls, make sure to spend some time admiring the incredible natural beauty around you and just relax.

Our family of four did this hike in July of 2020. We loved this hike. It was my favourite one in Waterton so far. A bit of an elevation in the beginning but not that bad at all. There is no shade since the trees were burnt in the 2017 fire. That being said the falls at the end provide some relief from the heat. Scenic hike. It’s not a short hike, steep hill and then comes the gorgeous view of the town and lake, if you want to see the falls, take right and keep going for another 25 or 30 minutes. Keep going and you will reach the creek and small falls where you can dip your feet, swim and just relax (you can do this beside the falls too )but after that remember you keep going till the bridge that’s where you see the falls.
