First time to this large, outdoor (but with some stalls covered/indoors) Farmers' Market: a great one! We usually go to the Calgary Farmers' Market on Blackfoot, and while the drive means we wouldn't go to Millarville every week, it's certainly worth the drive every few weeks during the season (which is Saturdays May to October-ish I think).
Lots of great fresh fruit and veg (we got carrots, peas, radish, nugget potatoes, cherries, and some fantastic raspberries), frozen meals/sauces/items from India, Vietnam, and Burma (Myanmar) plus some beer and sourdough bread. If we'd had room we were eyeing some lovely hanging flower arrangements. I can see why they appear to rent wagons at the entrance (note to self: next time get one!) They ask for a cash donation at the gate, but every stall we went to took card/tap.
It's larger than you think, it wraps around, there's a section where a bunch of individual stalls are used, and a small building as well. Plus a few food trucks. There was a live band playing while we were there too. Plenty of handi-crafts, jarred sauced and things, some distilled spirits, and the like. Lots of free parking, with an...
Read moreWe were camping so my rating is based on that experience. The island camp's roads weren't maintained, so they were muddy with grooves in them from the past week's rainfall. Not ideal for pulling trailers through. There was one water tap, over in the other campground, not near ours. The washrooms were way over by the Ag center and not well maintained. The guy cleaning them Monday was gagging as he changed the garbage and there was a broken egg and big clump of mud in the one shower in the women's washroom that never got cleaned up in the four days we were there. Watch the spots, there are a few that are in questionable placement in the middle and then some where you're on top of the person beside you with no separation (more like a group spot). No hook ups at all, power would have been nice and a sani dump could would have been...
Read moreThere's nothing to see here. Waste of gas money & time. Dont come. Market is a flop. There are much better markets and vendors in other small towns & calgary. Had horse races on this weekend .. there were too many people for what this place could handle. Not enough washroom portapotties are so gross. Racing horses in hot weather was cruel. People had dogs locked in cars. Authorities were called. People are rude & entitled. Everything is overpriced. The hotdogs vendor was the only food truck. I swear his hotdogs were animals guts - I'd never seen a white inside smokie. It was 8$. Waste of my time & money will never go back. Many people were rude & entitled. Who treats their animals this way? And they're supposed to be very well cared for.. yeah ok.. Very much a me first and only attitude. Very selfish, entertain...
