My wife and I had an amazing 4 night stay at the Lake cabin this past weekend. We reviewed the comments on this site and prepared for cabin lifestyle. First of all, maybe an exception for this year, but we did not use any mosquito repelant during our whole stay! Unbelievable. We expected an onslaught of mosquitos by a lake. The forecast was OK for a day and half but rain for the remainder, we loaded with books and puzzles. The weather was good as the rain only appeared mostly at night, no puzzles started. Be prepared my fellow tourists, it's remote there with touches of city life like a great restaurant at your doorstep. Yes, we had an outdoor potty for bathroom, but it was new, clean and did not smell like the ones you experience at a music festival. Plan B is to walk 2 minutes to the Hilton resort style washrooms available for use between 7am and 9pm. Showers there also for $2 for 4 minute use. So plan carefully for the 4 minutes you have. Water was hot and we loved it. Again, way better than some campgrounds we've been to with no showers available and sleeping in tents. The BBQ we had was fantastic. Looked new, a Broil King Baron, 4 burners of cooking power. We again came prepared with a cooler and ice we bought in Cochrane AB on the drive in. We bought steaks in Cochrane, ground beef, buns, snacks. We had camping items like aluminum foil, onions, spices, booze, home made bread. It was delicious. First night, BBQ Alberta striploin steaks, don't forget to salt them 30 minutes before you slap them on the pre heated BBQ. Cut potatoes in slices, place in microwave dish (that we brought with us just in case the cabin did not have it), nuke till they are el dente, say 5 minutes. Then place el dente potatoes in triple layer foil, add olive oil, pepper, paprika. Add more foil to seal the potato dish. place on preheated low heat side of the BBQ. flip around every 3-4 minutes to not burn them. Onions, cut them in slices, add to another triple layer foil, add olive oil, pepper, turmeric. mix well, seal top with double foil, cook along side with potatoes on low heat side of BBQ. Steak, I cook 1 minute on very hot BBQ side, flip 1 minute on other side, flip and then turn to low heat, 3-4 minutes each side toget a nice medium. Our meal was sooo delicious without fighting the mosquitoes at the picnic table beside the camp fire. The cabin had a microwave, and toaster and coffe maker. No sink so wash dishes on patio with water provided in cooler and dish tub provided. Home made bread toast with cinnamon and sugar topping, coffee sitting under cover on the cabin patio in the morning. Peaceful enjoying the world God created for us. Hamburgers for 2 nights with leftover potatoes and onions from first night. Don't forget to toast your hamburger buns. Not a great burger if Buns not toasted, sorry Wendy's. We had a great evening for the Prime Rib dinner at the Restaurant. Excellent dinner for all 3 courses we had. Perfect restaurant for an event, or a celebration. It was our wedding anniversary that weekend and we enjoyed the evening out to this restaurant. Sundre is about a 10 min drive so we were able to find a church where we attended the McDougal Chapel service at 10:30am Sunday morning. They were so welcoming and even invited us to their monthly lunch after the service. Sundre has several churches for you to choose from.
The lake had many ducks, geese, loons, we saw a skunk sniff by the cabin patio.(Better was your dishes or the friendly skunk will make your stay not very fun). Very peaceful and we were able to recharge from the city lifestyle, read books, listen to bird calls, sound of the rain on the tin cabin roof, spend time with each other and away from the internet. Internet very weak at the cabin, but walk 2 minutes to the main lodge and good internet from their Wi-Fi there.
Oh yeah, cabin only has a plug in electric heater. Was good for us, but we had several blankets as options. Cabin has several blankets also.
We shall...
Read moreBrunch Buffet was awful. Not enough of a selection for a buffet. Everything was warm and had been obviously sitting since 9:00am as we arrived at 11:00am. I thought brunch was breakfast and lunch but they had nothing for lunch items. There was bacon and sausages, ham, cheesy scrambled eggs, eggs Benedict, potatoes, Porridge, a baked French toast, and smoked salmon but looked like a sauce on it so did not try this. There actually wasn’t anything to go with the salmon. There were two kinds of melons and pineapple with a few sour strawberries. There were yogurt bowels, two kinds of pastries and muffins. My husband tried the eggs Benedict and could not cut through the ham (might have been back bacon) and the English muffin. The Chef was kind enough to ask us how it was and brought out fresh ones right away and served it to my husband but they were the same, ham and muffins just too over cooked. The cheesy eggs were fine had already had enough when they finally brought out a fresh pan of them, The baked French toast was a bit over powering in taste, it definitely filled your belly. I do not mean that in a good way. Bacon was ok, didn’t try the sausage. Ham over cooked. My husband did say the potatoes were good. Basically we left hungry and disappointed that it was only a breakfast buffet not a Brunch. My advice have a look first before you sit down as we all have different expectations. This was the first time for us to be there and I believe this was the first brunch buffet for them that is why I am writing these comments in hope that is gets better. Will we return? NO. We have been to many Brunch Buffets in different Countries over the world and this one was the worse. Actually we had never been to a bad one until now. All brunch buffets we have been to has always had an egg station, and or a Carvery and lunch items like meats, soup, breads, Croissants, Veggies, tomatoes or at least a salad of some sort. We have been to others that the selection was limited but the selection and quality was good. I know space is limited but if its a Breakfast Buffet...
Read moreI could talk about this place all day, I’m very picky with restaurants but this place is phenomenal I try to take the trip out at least every 2 weeks and would go once a week if I could. Worth the drive, chain restaurants will charge you more money for below average food. Not even worth going to eat out in my opinion. This place offers lower prices for easily 5 times better food than anywhere else, not even comparable in my opinion because it’s so good. I have had 3 different appetizers, 3 different main meals and it’s always tasted better or the same every time I go. Everyone else I have been with agrees, Never gets old. only place I go anymore, Great views, walking paths the staff is always fantastic and top notch chef. Stop wasting your money at below average restaurants and come here for a proper meal. Guarantee you’ll be back next week! 5+ stars easily 👌🏻 would have posted more pics but food got...
