The trail was a nice short walk from the parking lot. I considered it to be fairly accessible. My sister is blind and we didn't have any issues guiding her. Although, getting to the wooded section closer to the falls as well as traversing down to the lower falls is more difficult. I believe that we could have guided my sister successfully but if you have a wheelchair or walking aids, you won't be able to go much further than the outlook bridge. Please also keep in mind that traveling down to the bridge is a steep paved travel so coming back up will be a steep incline.

We also saw a bear on our way back to the parking lot. It paid us no mind but it certainly startled us! When in bear country, remember to make noise and give the bear it's space. Getting too close to the bear is dangerous for both you and the bear. Also DO NOT FEED THEM!

The lower falls is through wooded territory and while the trail is marked and relatively maintained, it's also riddled with lots of exposed roots and sizable rocks. The lower falls are nice but if you're not a hiker and don't care much about photography, you can...

The Sunwapta Falls was a pretty waterfall that could be accessed via a short hike from along the Icefields Parkway. These falls were located south of Jasper and made a perfect place to stop.

The short trail led through the peaceful forest to the falls. The Upper Falls were situated along a river and were beautiful to see. They were powerful and loud! There were great photo opportunities and views from along the trail and on the footbridge that crossed the deep canyon. The scenery around the falls was so pretty as well with pine tree forests and mountain peaks as the backdrop.

After crossing the bridge, the trail continued for another ~2 km to the Lower Falls. They were smaller and not as impressive, but still beautiful to see. There was a chain link fence along the trail on the edge of the rocks to prevent you from getting too close to the falls and edge of the canyon.

There was plenty of parking at the lodge, where they also sell snacks and gifts and have washrooms.

I would recommend stopping to visit...

A superb natural wonder.it look like you are in the another world.Sunwapta Falls is a pair of waterfalls of the Sunwapta River located in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. The falls are accessible via a 600 metres (2,000 feet) access road off the Icefields Parkway, which connects Jasper and Banff National Parks. The falls have a drop of about 18.5 metres (61 feet). Sunwapta is a Stoney language word that means "turbulent water". The falls is most spectacular in the late spring when the spring melt is at its peak. There are two falls, a lower and an upper one. The one most people see is the upper falls, as access is easier. The lower falls are a short distance away. The water originates from the Athabasca Glacier, and volumes are higher in early summer because of glacial melting. It is a Class 6 waterfall, with a drop of 60 ft (18 m) and a width of...

QUIETER ALTERNATIVES TO POPULAR PLACES CANADA🇨🇦 📌Lake Louise➡️Floe Lake 👉🏻Lake Louise - probably the most visited spot in the whole of Canada, but how insanely busy it is at the main lakeshore viewpoint really takes away from it 👉🏻Floe Lake - It’s a 10k hike in, but it’s worth it as the view is just as impressive, if not better than Lake Louise. We visited in peak season & I couldn’t believe how quiet it was! 📌Plain of Six Glaciers➡️Bugaboo 👉🏻Plain of Six Glaciers - to be honest, we found it a bit disappointing, yet it was still really busy 👉🏻Bugaboo - quite a drive, & a strenuous steep hike in, but it’s worth the effort. Once you get above the treeline you have uninterrupted views of Bugaboo Glacier 📌Lake Agnes Teahouse➡️Diana Lake Teahouse 👉🏻Lake Agnes Teahouse - you’re likely to end up needing to queue for 30 minutes just to get an expensive cup of tea here. 👉🏻Diana Lake Teahouse - The hike to here is pretty similar to Lake Agnes, but here you won’t need to queue, & the tea is considerably cheaper. They also make amazing Pizzas! 📌Peyto Lake➡️Oesa Lake 👉🏻Peyto Lake - stunning, but you have to put up with the masses of people who only want to take the iconic picture 👉🏻Oesa Lake - can be found along the Alpine Circuit from Lake O’Hara, & again there was barely anyone there but even more stunning than Peyto lake! 📌Sulphur Mountain➡️The Whistlers 👉🏻Sulphur Mountain - one of the busiest spots around Banff, probably due to the fact there’s a gondola to the top 👉🏻The Whistlers - You still have the option to get a gondola up, but the view is much more impressive, & there’s a lot less people here 📌Sunwapta Falls➡️Numa Falls 👉🏻Sunwapta Falls - along the Icefields Parkway, so most people will stop here when driving between Jasper & Banff 👉🏻Numa Falls-almost identical to Sunwapta, but is in Kootenay National Park which gets a lot less visitors 📌Twojacks Lake➡️Chephren Lake 👉🏻Twojacks Lake - Just outside of Banff, so will get a lot of footfall as it’s so nearby 👉🏻Chephren Lake - a short flat hike to reach, yet we were the only people there at the time, & the mountain backdrop is much more impressive than TwoJacks

ONE WEEK ITINERARY CANADIAN ROCKIES - NON HIKING 🇨🇦👇🏻 Upon request here is an itinerary for the Canadian Rockies, if you don’t want to hike and instead just want to visit the popular spots that you can stop at without any hiking required. 📌DAY ONE: 👉🏻Start in Banff - explore Banff’s town and get the Banff gondola up to Sulphur Mountain. I reccomend dining at Sky Bistro at the top. 🏠Spend the night in Banff 📌DAY TWO: 👉🏻Visit Two Jacks Lake and Lake Minnewanka (a popular place for a cruise down the lake) 👉🏻Another popular spot is Johnston canyon, I didn’t include it as there is a bit of hiking involved but it is very minimal and to reach the lower falls it’s more of a walk. 🏠Stay in Banff 📌DAY THREE: 👉🏻Visit the iconic Lake Louise and Moraine Lake - you can get a bus ticket that takes you to both in one day with time to stop off at lake shore for photos 🏠Stay in Banff 📌DAY FOUR: 👉🏻Drive the Icefields Parkway one of the most iconic roads in the world 👉🏻Stop at Bow Lake, Waterfowls Lake and Peyto Lake 👉🏻Could also add on columbia icefields excursion 🏠Stay in Jasper 📌DAY FIVE: 👉🏻Get the Jasper skytram for view over Jasper 👉🏻Do the valley of five lakes walk and / or visit Pyramid Lake. 🏠Stay in Jasper 📌DAY SIX: 👉🏻Drive back down IceFields Parkway to Yoho National Park, stopping off at Athabasca and Sunwapta Falls on way back. 🏠Stay in Yoho 📌DAY SEVEN: 👉🏻Visit Lake O Hara (must book bus reservation far in advance - if you can’t get a ticket then go to Emerald Lake instead) 👉🏻Visit Takkakaw Falls If you have any questions please let me know in the comments or DM me💛 And if you do want an itinerary that has a mix of hiking as well I posted a two and three week itinerary on this page - if you can’t find it comment HIKE & ill DM it to you 🤙🏼 Which National Park are you most excited to visit on this itinerary? 👇🏻🇨🇦
