The absolute worst field trip I have ever experienced. The two women making Paska were amazing, kind, funny and interactive with the children. The man and woman running the horse drawn wagon were rude, disrespectful and just outright mean to the kids. The other two men who taught the kids about Pysanka and gave us the tour of the church were also horrible. They had no patience with the kids and got angry at them consistently throughout the field trip. They had no idea how long eight year old children can actually sit still and listen to them talk and then would get furious at them when they started fidgeting after being expected to listen to them talk for sometimes over 20 minutes straight. This doesn’t seem like a very long time for an adult but for anyone who has any experience working with children, it is unrealistic to expect young children to sit that long and do nothing but listen to an adult talk. The two men were not fun, were not animated and even the parents and teachers started to disengage and stop listening.

The four adults should NOT be working with children or they should receive some training and become educated on how to teach and interact with kids. Or they should go and watch the women making Paska and how they interact and show kindness and warmth towards the children. The kids behaved perfectly for these kind women and it’s because they were fun and had the kids involved and doing something within 5 minutes.

The staff seem to have forgotten that the children are their paying customers and that is how they are earning their income and the reason why they have a job. They have lost out entire family as customers and we will not recommend the Ukraine Village to any of our friends or family.

Shame on you Ukraine Villlafe for treating our...

2nd time here, really enjoy walking through here. Buildings and tour was great. Interesting place.

Was disappointed that some of the buildings were closed until as our group arrived just after the village opened (around 10:30am). I feel they should just be open all day. Other buildings just not open at all. Church was my favourite building.

Would be nice if the people cooking offered samples. Went for lunch after touring the park. I think some Ukrainian music in the eating area would be nice, rather than silence. Maybe dancers too? That might be asking too much lol but at least some music of the Ukraine.

The food service was brutally slow, condiments all empty. Took almost 30 mins to get food, meanwhile our bags of perogies were half unthawed by that time. Quite expensive too. 2 hot dogs, 2 Ukrainian plates, 10 perogies, 2 bags of frozen perogies to go (24 in each bag), and 4 pops was $81.00 before tip. Just so frustratingly slow, and food that (l would think) is quick to prepare. Didn’t get sausage or the cornmeal on plate as advertised. Tasted great tho. Tables all unwiped. Food experience is why I did 4 instead of 5 stars.

All in all a good day, enjoy the atmosphere. Everyone should go here at least once! Just bring snacks and grab a bag of frozen perogies...

Total waste of money. Paid full family entrance fee, with most houses etc. being closed. Places were nothing but over grown weeds and no interacting from the so called workers. There is no effort to make it traditional, other than buildings. there is a restaurant in the hotel, why not at least have coffe and pie to make some sort of effort to make some funds, rather than a disappointing walk about. So much more can be done with very little effort. But effort means a bit of work, which seems to be there lack of. As for animals, isa brown chickens aren't a traditional heritage breed, but a mixed breed. Some pigs and a couple of horses. It needs more effort into getting with the program. Staff need to get off their butts and do as they are paid for...act the era, and not stand as a door stop. The consesion is a total rip off waste of time. Very poor! I just think the village can have a bit of things happening everyday. I do know they have their special event days. But then don't charge the full fees if that is the case, as it is disappointing. I saw many people arrive and leave in no time at all. I heard a lot of negative comments. I know very few ever post a review, so the first star rating is not even accurate.

It is a beautiful place though, it just needs more for the...

As someone who’s been to Calgary’s Heritage Park and similar I wasn’t quite sure what to expect for this place and admittedly my expectations were very very low but our family had a wonderful time. The place is small but has enough things to see for a few hours. It’s not overly crowded unlike the Heritage Park which meant for more quality interactions with the “in character” actors (they mark on the map which buildings they’re in) - this was the best part as it’s super immersive and informative and I’d recommend this place for this part alone. The buildings with just staff dressed up but not role playing were still very good too as they can take their time sharing facts about the building, its history, the way of life back in the days making it very informative and interesting. They have a free horse drawn cart ride which we didn’t get to do but seemed fun. And a Ukrainian kitchen where you can buy some food perogies, sausage, crepe, Ukrainian donuts (recommend this one). Food was okay, priced well. When we went a lot of building were closed or under construction which was a small minus but overall the experience was wonderful.

Firstly, you should go here. Secondly, you should go here. What a wonderful way to learn, and more importantly, experience a unique peice of history. The whole village is smartly arranged in sections corresponding to specific time periods. This means buildings, homes and where applicable, garden plots are historically accurate. The detail and and attention to authenticity are wonderful. Right down to herbs hanging from the rafters like my Ukrainian wife said they once did in her family. The actors/speakers are just fantastic. I am sure they had to spend a fair amount of time learning to be able to pass along the wealth of information they do. They stay in period and answer/observe as such. I leaned alot and wish that I had been bale to speak to them more. Wonderful exhibits and placards explaining much of what you see around the park. They have really done a wonderful job with this place. Plenty of parking, no issues and seemed very safe You should go here. Spend all day here. Ask questions, interact with the people, eat at the restaurant. Really, this was a highlight of my summer.

The experience of a lifetime for any descendants of Ukrainian immigrants or anyone else! The level of understanding (and admiration for) the earliest farming communities in this area of Canada will be astronomical. Wow. The courage and hard work of these first Ukrainian families in Alberta is really remarkable. I personally was impressed by the reenactors! What a pleasure to talk to these fine actors. They were so knowledgeable (especially the Railway Man). The area with the earliest farms was my favourite. This is the area of the Ukrainian Village that is on the upper right hand side of their map. Anyway, the reenactor who "lived" in the sod house was just amazing. She spoke broken English, she showed the few possessions she owned, she showed us with some pride her vegetable garden, her fire pit, and the wheat she was growing. Later, this part of the experience brought me to tears. This was 100% exactly what my grandparents experienced for their first home in Canada. DON'T MISS GOING TO THE Ukrainian Village!!
