Super disappointing and limited experience. This is my Honest review with no filter or sugar coating. I would have given it one star but fell sorry because nature and surrounding elements are spectacular indeed. Where do we start with negatives?! First off the price set at $35 is not only steep but completely unjustified. I read a review before I went there that it’s very rundown and nothing really to do there. I didn’t believe it until I saw it with my own eyes. Once you get up across the river after a very. Beautiful but short tram ride you have a suspension bridge, a counter that was once a restaurant, a sad, overpriced and limited store, a small gallery history museum and a Fudge and candy store that sells terrible fudge by the way. The restaurant looks so run down that we didn’t order anything. They had 5-6 food choices on the menu and it’s an actual counter self serve cashier. The store sells some items and cheap souvenirs some you’d find in Vancouver aquarium and bc ferries but much more pricey. The sweet shop / ice cream fudge was a total joke. I got a sea salt and caramel. If you’ve never had a fudge in your life there is a small chance you might like it. It was salty like they dumped the salt and rolled it into a mushy paste with some hint of sweet caramel. I almost died in the first bite. The whole place seems unkept and rundown. It really is a shame because it is such a heritage site and deserves to shine. I imagine if a better owner take care of this place it could receive some boost and major upgrades.

Such a cool experience. I am so glad we went during the fall. The colors were so beautiful! The airtram was cool (too short imo) I would have loved more time being suspended over the river to take in the scenery but there is a walk-on suspension bridge once you get off the tram so that was cool! It was a neat surprise to participate in the annual Pumpkin Drop too! I missed the target but it was still fun!! Haha Really cool educational historic displays. A little lacking in grandure but still informative and interesting! Gift shop wasnt terrible. The whole experience was really unique and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Covid related; The staff all wore masks, and the airtram is disinfected after every use. Masks were required, and provided if needed. There wasn't a ton of people when we went so psychical distancing was easy enough. Restaurant had a very limited menu, burgers and hot dogs. My friend is a vegetarian so unfortunately there was no food option for her. Not even fries, so that would be the only downside in my opinion. All in all though I still rate it at 5 stars, 10/10 would recommend!

While the location is amazing, I want to give a shout out to the staff. Yesterday saw a power outage that shut down the attraction with us at the bottom of the tram. When it first went out, an employee actually dug into her purse and paid for my bottle of water. Says a lot of the character of employees they hire as I can’t see it being a lucrative job. As it became apparent it wasn’t to be a short outage, the team went into their action plan on lowering the stranded trams and ensuring customer comfort. I learned a fair bit about the safety and maintenance that goes on a daily basis there and left with full confidence on how this place is run. Shuttles were sent down to pick up customers to return them to the top and good thing as I’d probably die if I had to hike it.😅 The only disappointment was the power killing the opportunity to get shirts from the gift shop but that’s the price we pay for not carrying cash. So in short to all the staff there, you guys are amazing!!

I can’t tell you just how much I do not recommend this place. I have visited so many of Canadas tourist destinations, big and small, and this was the worst by far.

I visited this place with my mother with high hopes, and it turns out to have been taken over by foreign investors who clearly do not know anything about upkeeping a business to its countries cultural standards regarding scenic tourist destinations.

Immediately upon arrival to the front waiting area, you will find gacha games and a balloon maker that have nothing to do with Hells Gate, just cheap dinky toys with such designs as airplanes.

The reception desk was manned by someone who was clearly still learning English, which in and of itself is not a problem, but they only spoke to us enough to take our transaction for the tickets and tell us the wait time, and nothing else. There was no attempt to engage in conversation, as to why we might be visiting, or to speak about the destination that we were paying around $40 a person to visit.

The only information we received about the destination was a two minute rehearsed speech on the tram ride down, by another person who was also struggling with English. Every single staff personnel we spoke to struggled with English, which is a horrible choice for a Canadian tourist destination.

Every single staff person was either talking to their coworkers in a different language, or on their cellphones. Not a single staff person tried to engage us. I had so many questions about the Tram and the area, and it felt like I couldn’t approach anyone.

The gift shop had the most generic items, the “restaurant” (if you could call it that) had only prewrapped sandwiches, pop, and chips. The sweet shop with a giant sign for “ice cream” outside? Had one single scoop of ice cream left. The rest of the sweet shop was sparsely stocked with candy that looked like it’d been sitting untouched for a very long time.

If the business owner is reading this, I have recommendations for you. One, hire Canadian employees to work at your Canadian Tourist Destination. You’ll find that that alone will help increase guest experience greatly. Two, remove the random Japanese gacha machines, or fill them with Canadian gacha prizes. Plastic moose, tiny salmon, little bears, etc. Three, hire a front desk till person who is very social and will engage in in-depth conversations with your guests. It will make them feel that their patronage is valued. Four, stock your shops properly. You can easily buy candy in bulk and stock that shop to the brim. As well, stock the ice cream. No point of having and ice cream shop with no ice cream. Five, have an actual menu for your restaurant. It is not that hard to have cooked lunch items that tie into the area, like salmon sandwiches, fish and chips, etc. Six, have a few staff in your gift shop, and instead of having them sit on their phones scrolling and laughing, have them greet anyone who enters, have them knowledgeable about the area, have them engage people. Seven, in your “museum”, hire someone to give mini tours and talk about Hells Gate history. Maybe instead of having people have to go turn on the videos about Hells Gate, have one video play every 20 minutes or so. Walking into a screened room with a dark tv and lights on makes the room look well untouched. And eight? Have some staff walking about the premises, engaging guests around the areas that they’re near. Have someone on the bridge talking about the tram and bridge, have someone running the gold panning station, have someone by the lookout point talking about the lands history.

Having friendly, engaging staff and stocked shops will increase your ratings highly. Until then? I wish I could’ve given zero stars. At least the...

I would really like to give this zero stars but I am forced to tick one at least. I have family visiting from abroad and thought this would be a nice day out. To be clear the place and setting is nice but it is now run by different management who do not care about the local community or heritage of the hystorical site and are letting it run down. We live in Canada and we have standards so whoever is running it either needs to be put under pressure by the local government to bring it up to standard or give it to the hands who actually care and does not steal money from people The staff, despite trying to be friendly, hardly spoke any english. The girl had a piece of paper to read from. All they did is laugh when we told them how poor the site was now. The fudge shop was empty and I mean EMPTY. No fudge or anything else of any kind. Overpriced cheap ice cream and that is it. Not sure how long they have not provided fudge but from the looks of it for quite some time. However there was a ridiculous pink machine to get candy floss. The restaurant was closed so you could not buy anything. The staff told me that the shop was selling some sandwiches. The guy did not even know what sandwiches they were selling and the packages had no labels...apparently there were some packaged up burgers too but they could not warm them up. The gift shop had nothing related to the history of the place but tacky overpriced gadgets from China. The museum section was ok but the theatre was not working. When I asked them about it they tried to fix it but then the volume did not work. I had to ask them again and eventually we got sound too. Lack of maintenance and care. The museum sections and shop and gift shop clearly are not warmed up enough as it was cold in there. The staff had to wear jackets as they were cold. They are skimping on heating cost too. Very unpleasant. Nepotism at it best as they only employ their own kind and cannot speak english. The outdoor section had no plants and general lack of care. When talking to the management he did not batter an eye lid. He did not care about anything. I asked for half of my money back and he said NO. I asked if this is the type of customer service they provide and he said YES. So rude and only out to steal our money and not...

We drove to Hells Gate, Air Tram from Maple Ridge yesterday (May 20th), two hours maximum through tunnels and bridges. It was raining all the way then became very pleasant when we entered the Hells Gate area.

Somehow our google maps default this location to Boston Bar, BC and we drove passed through it. All for good. Just north of 2 KM’s, we pulled over on the expanded curb and decided to make an U turn. There we saw a beautiful water falls and took few pictures. I think the water falls has water during the rainy season and I will check during summer.

May 20th was Victoria Day holiday and surprisingly the place was not crowded. We got in quickly and took the tram down. It was a breath-taking view. The tram Captain Buenon was all smiling and welcoming.

Once we went down to the small enclave at the other side of the river, we walked through the red bridge (Very similar design of Golden Gate Bridge, SFO). Believe me, we didn’t want to come out of it. The Fraser river was raging under the bridge and it makes anyone humble in their mind. It delivers 200 million gallons of water per minute. After clicking some pictures and spent sometime watching the river, we came to the gift shop and bought some souvenirs. Too bad, the restaurant didn’t have ‘Hells Gate’ beer in stock on that day.

The gift shop has a nice exhibition that explains about Salmon habitat, Fish pathway and contains other historical information. First time, I came to know that Salmons never drink ‘Fresh Water’. They wait until they reach the sea to drink. They also have exhibition about Chinese workers about their hard work towards building rocky mountain rail roads. I just missed to see the haunted stove (next time).

We took the tram and went up.

Just 12 KM south of Air tram location at Route 1, we stopped at Alexandra Lodge (built in 1858) and took some pictures. Then pulled over into Alexandra Bridge (built in 1861) picnic area, had our lunch then walked through a short trail to reach the bridge (10 minutes of walk). A very beautiful bridge that gives you calm look of Fraser River.

Since we live nearby, I can’t provide the lodging details and other amenities. However, the best place to stay is either Boston Bar or Hope...
