This glacier travel course is the ideal program for hikers, scramblers, backcountry skiers and climbers who wish to safely learn the basics of mountaineering in glaciated terrain. Many of the best climbs in the Rockies and throughout the world involve some glacier travel. Rescue and judgement skills are crucial to enjoying these climbs in a safe manner.

What do you get when you combine ancient glaciers, a legendary icefield, and all the wonders beneath the snow-capped Canadian peaks? One of the coolest vacations there is! This nine-day tour through the Canadian Rockies and Montana’s Glacier National Park is an adventure filled with wild history, wild scenery, wildlife, and wild rides. Aboard a famous vintage Red Jammer, a massive ice explorer, a glass-walled boat (and even a flightseeing helicopter should you choose) you’ll relish the best views of big skies, bighorn sheep, and even bigger bears. From rugged gold rush territory to the sparkling turquoise waters of Banff and Jasper National Parks, there are so many gems to sink your teeth into on this Canadian Rockies vacation. We suggest starting with a tender filet of Alberta beef and a heavenly slice of homemade...

WARNING: ⚠️

Glacier National Park, located in the heart of the Columbia Mountains in British Columbia, Canada, offers stunning scenery and a rich history. However, visitors should be prepared for certain challenges to ensure a smooth experience.

⚠️ During our visit, the roads were quite busy, leading to significant slowdowns due to an accident. This resulted in delays of an hour or more, compounded by smoky and hazy skies, which diminished the otherwise breathtaking views. The hot weather also added to the overall discomfort.

⚠️ For those traveling to the park, it is advisable to take bathroom breaks before leaving towns like Golden or Revelstoke, as facilities along the way can be scarce. Ensuring your vehicle is well-fueled and electric vehicles are fully charged is crucial, given the potential for lengthy traffic delays.

Despite these inconveniences, Glacier National Park remains a remarkable destination with its diverse ecosystems, glaciers, and hiking opportunities. Proper preparation can help mitigate some of the travel challenges, allowing visitors to fully appreciate the natural beauty and outdoor adventures the park...

SW of Jasper are two smaller parks, part of the Canadian National Park System. Glacier and Revelstoke National Parks are located in parts of the Columbia Mountains. The history here is about the Canadian Pacific Railroad and the epic battles against the avalanches that came roaring down the mountains at speeds up to 202 mph, so fast that people were entombed standing up, and before they knew what hit them. More information on this interesting history is available at the Rogers Pass Discovery Center, about a mile east of Rogers Pass Summit, and you can view the historic site. Coming into the town of Revelstoke, there are opportunities for down hill skiing and in the summer, a gondola ride and a 'Pipeline' at one of Revelstoke's Mountain Resorts. One does not need to be a guest there to take advantage of these recreational opportunities. We came on a sparkly day and the views were really nice. We found the highway to be smooth, clear, and in good repair. it was a lovey drive and it is...
