Takakkaw Falls is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Canada, located in Yoho National Park in British Columbia. The name "Takakkaw" means "It is magnificent" in the Cree language, which perfectly describes the grandeur of this natural feature.

Details about Takakkaw Falls:

— Location:

— Takakkaw Falls is situated in the Yoho Valley, approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of the town of Field, British Columbia. It is easily accessible from the Yoho Valley road, which typically opens in late June to early September due to snowfall.

— Water Source:

— The waters of Takakkaw Falls come from the Daly Glacier, which is located at the top of the falls. The meltwater from the glacier flows into the Yoho River, resulting in the powerful waterfall.

— Facilities:

— Near the parking area, there is a picnic spot, restrooms, and information signs that provide details about the falls and the surrounding area.

I regret terribly this place becoming so popular, I used to come here and be basically the only one here. Well what can you say? It's a gorgeous place, and as much as I'd selfishly keep silent, really everyone should come here at least once! Come in the spring when the wildflowers are in bloom, wear something flowy, a scarf, a dress, a cape... something.  Don't spend to much time styling your hair, the mist will totally ruin it and you must get close enough to let that crisp, pure, magical mist kiss your face. The trail in is paved, winding, with a small bridge. So yes, you could bring heels😁. Come in the rain,  bring your umbrella, expectations of getting wet and bonus if you got boots. Come in the fall. Oh, that drive in the fall!!!!The roads are nearly paved with gold leaves. You should have a sweater and something warm to hold in your hands, then. Come in the summer, in the early mornings before the crowds. Come with the crowds in the heat. Bring your hiking shoes. Climb to the top where you get the full force and power that must be felt to be understood, also a spectacular view of the valley. Unfortunately you cannot come in the winter, as the road is closed from mid October to mid June. Sadly I cannot say what magic it must be then. But I have been here enough to know that no matter the season or weather it is worth the visit! Yes,  I am biased, this is my backyard afterall. Even still, I do not think you...

My first visit to Takakkaw Falls in Yoho National Park was nothing short of breathtaking! I’d heard amazing things about this place, and the reviews were spot-on. Driving up the scenic Yoho Valley Road was an adventure in itself—those tight switchbacks and stunning mountain views set the stage for something special. When I arrived at the parking lot, I could already see the falls in the distance, and they were even more impressive up close! The short, paved trail to the base was super easy, perfect for a first-timer like me, and it’s accessible enough for just about anyone. Standing near the falls, I was hit with a refreshing mist and the roar of the water—it’s hard to believe this is Canada’s second-tallest waterfall! The surrounding scenery, with rugged peaks and lush forest, felt like stepping into a postcard. I snapped tons of photos and even relaxed at one of the picnic tables with that incredible view. The whole experience was magical, and I’m already planning to come back to explore more of Yoho’s trails. If you’re visiting the Canadian Rockies, Takakkaw Falls is an...
