A little under 3km of light-to-medium-effort trails. The whole thing is easy enough for kids over 8 years old, but it's long enough that they will complain. Adults in good health will have zero issues; adults with health struggles (elderly, diabetes, disabilities, etc) will find most of the trail manageable, but some areas will provide a little bit of challenge. The last third of the trail, after the overlook of the Falls, takes you down some more challenging (but well-worn) paths to the water's edge, and in August in the hot & dry weather, it was safe to walk along the edge of the river to get up-close and personal with the falls. I suspect that we witnessed the lowest flow; any higher and it would have been unsafe. Bring insect repellent if it's cooler than 30C and/or if the humidity is high. Bring about half a litre of water per person to stay hydrated. The only washroom is at the...
Read moreSuch a beautiful hike! The view of the falls from the Top Lookout point is incredible. Highly recommend!
Some details for reference: From this point on the map it’s an easy 2.4km hike to the Wapta Falls Top Lookout (plenty of parking here like 30 cars easily). However, during off season months when the front gate is closed, add about 2km to your hike for you to walk to the start of the trail (so a total of 4.4km one way). You can still park at the front gate, only enough parking spots for 6-8 cars max (free). Definitely not baby stroller-friendly as there are plenty of exposed tree roots and inclines/declines along the trail. Washrooms available at the start of the trail parking lot. Trail is very well maintained
For the Apple Watch workout enthusiasts (round trip, there and back at off season) Elapsed time: 2 hours 13 minutes Distance: 8.2...
Read moreThe falls are nice, but if you'll only be in Yoho for a day, this long and unremarkable hike is not worth it. It's really about 85 mins of hiking and 5 of enjoying the waterfall view. The view is pretty spectacular, but just not worth it for such a long hike.
If you are aiming to go right down to the waterfall and get wet then it is probably worth it. However, while the 40 minute walk to the falls is fairly flat, it is extremely steep to get to the bottom of the falls.
There are also no signs indicating where to go to get to the bottom, how much longer it is until you get there (which would have helped since it is pretty monotonous), and the trail is very thin (single file if it's a busy day).
Other hikes in BC have felt more worth it for a group on a tight timeline. If you have a lot of time and want to get wet,...
